Trade Idea: BOS/UTA/NYK/CLE

Knicks rumored to be interested in Smart, Utah wants "something" for Hayward, Melo wants HOU or CLE, we need to shed salary and get a big.

BOS gets Hernangomez
UTA gets Love
CLE gets Melo + Diaw (expiring)
NYK gets Smart, Shumpert, Favors

It really depends on how Cleveland values Love and New York looks like the loser in this trade, but they generally are so they may be used to it and go along anyhow.

I don't think the Knicks are sooooo desperate with keeping Melo to do this horrible trade.

I don't think desperate is the right word, but they've been clear about committing to Zingas.  Getting a player they want (Smart) while getting half of Melo's salary off the books a year early (Favors), and getting a defensive swing (Shumpert) all while "honoring" Melo's wishes to move on might be a classy rebuilding move for them. 

I'd assume some picks would be involved, but nothing crazy like our lotto picks.

That's realistic on the player value level, but it's hard to pull off 4 team trades like that.  Good trade for the Celtics and Jazz.  Love is better than Melo imo, but Cleveland may think otherwise.  Diaw was bad last year, so if the Jazz get Love for Favors that's a big win.  Hernangomez for Smart is a downgrade talent wise, but it might be the least worst salary dump offer we get and Willy fills a niche we need to fill.
