It didn't occur to me like this until now ( I was too upset about the pick trade)  but if Danny really did get his man at three that he would've taken at one then the draft would've went like this without the trade:

#1 Tatum
#2 Ball
#3 Fultz
#4 Jackson

So not only did Danny get his man and pick up a good asset, Danny also got a team to give up an asset for a player that they would've gotten anyway. If the Sixers knew, and they should've, that The Lakers were taking Ball at 2, everybody knew this, then the sixers would have to know that the Celtics didn't want Fultz at one ( as they were trading the pick) and that he'd have to fall to the Sixers. The Sixers not seeing that and Danny seeing it is why he's sure a good GM! Chess instead of Checkers...

I think the Lakers would've picked Fultz at 2.
All the reports were that Magic was enamored with him and wated to trade up.

Highly doubt LAL pass on Fultz.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Danny would have picked Fultz, even if it was to trade him.

Danny drops to 3rd and save a little money, gain a future pick and still draft their man

I am sure there were others willing to trade for Fultz.  I doubt very much that the scenario ever would have been that the Celtics just took Tatum.

Danny would pick Fultz at #1. If he were to trade it to Philly, assuming they draft Tatum, he would be asking for more from them compared to the trade prior to Draft day.
