So freaking frustrating.

George went cheap. Butler went cheap. But hey, we have "assets".

If all the rumors are true of their asking price (2 firsts including the Nets pick and 2 starters) are you supposed to just be swindled?

You don't think there was any middle ground that could have been explored?

It's a fail for Ainge if we don't get Hayward.  If we get him, George was a bonus.  But we couldn't get both of we got George first.

So wait until Monday or Tuesday before you crucify Ainge on this one.

We could've reached terms on a deal and held off on executing it.

I hate Danny Ainge with a burning passion right about now
I'm fine with what Ainge is doing. Pointless burning assets for a player who isn't committed to you long-term. Build through the draft, free agency, and if a transcendent talent becomes available (e.g. not Paul George), throw the farm at him.

Sorry. I posted the wrong name Griffin on my thread instead of George, though the tweet reference  I posted was for George!

Stuff happens. Whatever. The tweet from Amick said George. Strike one, Danny.

To be fair, Butler was not all that cheap. Decent return for the Bulls, IMO.

But PG going for Dipo and Sabonis?? THATS CHEAP! I have a hard time imagining Pacers would choose that package over Bradley+Crowder and MEM and LAC 1st rounders.

How did Celts not beat that offer?

That's what we get for trying to play hardball.

Yep. It's not like it was both the Brooklyn pick AND the LA pick or bust. Danny wouldn't even offer the freaking LA pick... for a freaking MVP-level player in George.

Good Lord, Danny. I'm sure the apologists on here will make yet another excuse for him, though, just as they will when he doesn't land Hayward, too.

Why are you assuming there wasn't?  Danny tries to make all kinds of trades I am sure he tried everything.  They were in serious talks, we already know that.  Every bit of reporting I saw said the Pacers would not budge.

If they want 2 of Smart, Avery, Crowder, Brown and the Nets pick and Lakers pick well good riddance.  They can take their crap offer to prove their point.

I bet George would not commit to extending.

I also would not be surprised if Celtics are getting special treatment somewhat.  If you have more they want more.  The rumored asking price was too high and if they really asked that and turned around and took this well you have to not do business with that team.

I know people will freak about this but if we still go for Hayward and roll out with him as an addition and minor changes things are still great.  Deep breath.

Yep Danny himself confirmed teams are asking for more.

It's frustrating seeing stars get traded for little when we could use them.

As you say Celtics are still a good team, sign Hayward and a couple legit big men and we'll be in a great space

Well that obviously wasn't the asking price. He just went for Oladipo and Sabonis.

It's a fail for Ainge if we don't get Hayward.  If we get him, George was a bonus.  But we couldn't get both of we got George first.

Sure but I can't imagine Ainge gave the impression he was ever gonna give up much of anything. For George. You have to think Oladipo+ sabonis is the type of deal that is always gonna be there. If Pritchard thought Ainge was serious about George he surely would have waited the extra 4 days to potentially increase the return.

I'm OK with "striking out". Even if we don't get Hayward, I'm not gonna be too mad, but to let George go at this price? That's a failure on Danny's part. Simple as that.

Shocked we didn't beat that offer. Very disappointing.

Hopefully we are able to acquire Hayward and bright side here is that George is not on the Lkaers so that pick could convey. They were awful defensively and added Lopez and Ball. They should continue to be atrocious  on that end

Ah, I did at least forget about that. That at least helps us out a bit.
