Love it! Griffin would be an excellent back-up option if one of Hayward or George falls through.

Granted, I'm starting to think Hayward is almost certainly coming here after the Paul trade. That's three teams above Utah that they have no realistic hope of catching any time soon. #BostonBound

Why would they do that if there is a chance to sign him without giving up assets?

Not unless Blake opts in before July 1st and I don't see the benefit for him.

Griffin officially opted out already.

I am not convinced Blake and Horford could defend together.

Didn't Chris Paul do the same thing?

They might struggle, but how would that be different from last year?

Agree look at games played each year by Blake, hes always injured

Hayward and George is a much more versatile duo

At this point, my heart says Griffin but my brain says Hayward.

I think Blake would be a more natural fit next to Horford. At this point - to me anyway - it's clear Al's a center more than a power forward at his point in his NBA career. Blake would be our best rebounder by a mile instantly. He's an incredible playmaker and would fit seamlessly into the offense. I think he saw how Paul Pierce was treated when he came back and he's at least ready to seriously consider joining up.

But the injuries... The injuries is where I pause.

Hayward, with his Brad Stevens connections, seems like he's been in Ainge's cross hairs for awhile now. He's clearly their #1 target in free agency and it just seems like they're going to go hard for him.

I don't know, man. I originally was big on the Griffin over Hayward train, too, but I've really fallen in love with the potential small-ball lineup of IT, Brown, Hayward, PG, and Horford. That team would virtually be unguardable. Yeah, rebounding would be a problem, but any team that we would face in the playoffs that would hurt us with rebounding would also have no way to guard PG at the 4. Essentially, that lineup is just a walking mismatch with enormous offensive AND defensive potential.

Of course, Griffin would be a SUPERB back-up plan. If we get any of these three guys, I'll be tickled pink. I might die from an actual heart attack if we do manage to combine two of them together on the C's.

TP, arctic.

I just started a thread on just this, and then saw this.

I don't know the S&T rules.

I'd rather Hayward/PG13, but if we can't get one, I'd take Hayward/Griffin or PG13/Griffin!!

Going after Griffin always seemed like the logical choice, based on the players currently on the roster. Griffin checks off all the boxes from rebounding, scoring, and being a passing big man. The Celtics could essentially bring back the same team that made it to the Eastern Conference Finals, yet  will be able to upgrade their one position of need. I think the transition to adding just one starter is easier than essentially changing 3/5 of your starting lineup (assuming if we can't get Hayward, then we won't trade for George). As many have stated, the only downside is Blake's injury history.
