Source on Rockets: "They think they are getting Carmelo or Paul George."

There's no way they're getting George. They have nothing to offer that even comes close to getting him.

Perhaps they could get Carmelo, but I really question that fit, along with the fit of Paul and Harden in the first place.

Darrun Hillard from Detroit rounds it out.  CP3 will go to Houston, and get a little of his trade bonus too.

Melo leaving NYC still seems far-fetched to me, even with Phil Jackson gone.  He has a 10-year old kid that lives with his estranged wife (who isn't going anywhere due to her fashion business) and he wants to stay close to the child.  Now we get into non-basketball considerations which can overshadow anything else.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

If they added George somehow, I'd become a believer because it would be clear to all three stars that massive sharing of the ball is necessary, and George would help against San Antonio and Golden State.

If just adding Paul, I don't think Houston will have a better season than they just did.  Can't think of a worse twosome in the backcourt at the moment.  I mean I can think of worse, but I just don't think that duo will get the team where it wants..

We're venturing back into the "there's no way Demarcus Cousins is getting traded to New Orleans for that" territory again.

I don't think many teams were interested in Cousins.

So are the Rockets willing to deal Capela? That's a deal that could trump the Celtics offer.

Looks like Doc is well into the process of running another good thing into the ground.

According to Woj, Doc and Co. met with CP3 yesterday to "discuss his future with the team". Likely means he told them he was out, the Clips just worked it out so they could benefit - even marginally.

Doc's days are numbered in LA and the NBA, both as a coach and so-called GM.

To be fair, let's not forget that Doc was a very good NBA player for a number of years.

Next stop for the smooth-talking one: the broadcast booth. He's much better suited for that type of thing.

From Zach Lowe:

"The culture had eroded. Insiders complained about a lack of accountability -- about practices and shootarounds starting late, and Austin Rivers carrying himself like an anointed superstar."

Not really the point I was going for. Different teams have different motivations. Because we don't think the package is good, doesn't really mean that's what GMs are thinking.

Devil's advocate: Eric Gordon is actually from Indiana and played college ball there, maybe Indy would want to bring back the hometown kid for some feel good vibes in the wake of losing their superstar. They may be amenable to a package based on Gordon, throw in some firsts to boot.

We don't know.

Harden can't play with other ball handlers. Rockets just got worse

James Harden used to play with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

He'll be fine.

This. Absolutely.

How on earth did the Thunder screw that up?

It's probably the best 1-2 combo in the league talent wise.  I think they can make it work but I think Paul will have to actually do more adjusting than Harden.  Harden I think has and can play off ball more.
