Nets may not be quite as bad as last season. They now have:

D'angelo Russell, Jeremy Lin and Isaiah Whitehead in the backcourt,

Allen Crabbe, Joe Harris, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Caris Levert and Demarre Carroll on the wings,

and Zeller, Mozgov, and Trevor Booker inside.

Combine that with no incentive to tank, and they can do alright in the east.
When Lin was healthy last season they were considerably better than when he wasn't, going 13-23. If that continues this season with their additional new guys they could be similar to that, and win 32 or so games.

When Lin and Lopez were healthy they were okay, but with Lin and no Lopez they were 0-2 or 0-3. Lin alone didn't win them any games last year, and they haven't brought in anyone that will have an impact similar to Lopez. 32 wins would surprise me (even in the weak East)
I'm bitter.

Actually I really like a Lin-Zeller combo in the PnP or the PnR, Lin is a great fit with Zeller and vice versa. I think they'll overachieve and win 34 games or so.

Gotta be a bottom 5 backcourt too, though that could change if Russell makes strides.

Basically they need 2-3 young guys to be either efficient enough to help in a lot of games or explosive enough to swing the outcome of a few. And even then best case is probably like 32-34 wins.

Russell seems to have made strides with all those crazy clips about him this summer, and Lin is no slouch. I'd say they have a pretty good backcourt.

Lin is ok, but is a journeyman for a reason and is coming off an injury-riddled year.  Russell is talented but was traded in what amounted to mostly a salary dump for a reason too.

Russell could move them up if he excels but looking over the league there are several teams that are comparably bad but few that are clearly worse.

I actually like that deal.  Richardson was a solid defender last year and a solid offensive player in his rookie year.  Never really got on track offensively last year after getting hurt early on, if I recall.  If he can put the two pieces together, he's a valuable player.

Neat use of the new extension rules by Miami.  In terms of Smart, this has to be very near the most Miami can offer Richardson.

Mason Plumlee re-signs with Denver at 3 years @ 41M.  Think I would have let him take the QO.

The Indiana Pacers and free agent forward Jarrod Uthoff have agreed to a one-year, partially guaranteed deal, a league source told Basketball Insiders.

Uthoff, who shot 46 percent from beyond the arc in the G-league last year before being called up by the Dallas Mavericks, gives Indiana 20 players heading into training camp.

Uthoff passed on EuroLeague offers as well as offers from three other NBA teams, Basketball Insiders has learned.

The 24-year-old forward averaged 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game while playing in nine games for the Mavericks last season.

Nooooooooooooo!
