Sources: Free agent Pau Gasol's deal to return to Spurs: three years, $48M with a partial guarantee on final year

Spurs with Gasol and Ginobli back, and they added Rudy Gay. Those guys had GSW on the ropes until they lost Kwahi Leonard. They must believe they can take them if healthy.
I think they can get them, as long as Zaza doesn't act like a thug again (which might be asking for too much)

A team paying big money to a gasol in 2017 isn't winning anything

The Spurs aren't winning anything this year, but it's not because they are paying Gasol big money.

16 million for a 40 year old. Sheesh, has that ever happened before?

Probably helps them a little bit, but I don't feel like Crabbe really moves the needle at all... probably the first bad move from Marks given Crabbe's contract.

No, it's fine.  They'd already gotten a first to take on Nicholson's bad contract, which is the same length as Crabbe's.  So they are paying Crabbe a net of about $36 million over 3 years, since they've moved Nicholson.  That's much closer to Crabbe's worth.

Wow.  Portland cleared a ton of luxury tax there.

Well the Nets did give him that contract in the first place, but Portland matched.

Yeah, about $40 million.  I think it's a decent trade for the Nets, but Portland is saving a ton of tax money this year, as well as the next two when they'd also have been pushed over the tax.  It makes it not impossible to keep Nurkic going forward.

Andrew Nicholson to Blazers, who will most likely waive him using the stretch provision.

Crabbe actually waived his trade kicker.  It appears he really wanted to be in Brooklyn as that is the team he signed with last off season before the Blazers matched.

shedding salary for Portland, I wonder if they are still trying to make a run at Melo? Or just trading for the sake of avoiding the luxury tax?

This has been talked about in the Nets thread and free agency thread already.
