Hearing there's a chance a sign-and-trade could be a possibility with Amir Johnson.

I'm assuming for something non guaranteed to create some extra cap space?

Most likely either cash or a somewhat protected second-rounder.  Figure out how much Houston has left in non-guaranteeds they can trade, multiply that by 50%, and that's your deal.  (At least that's my guess.)

Why wouldn't Houston just waive the non-guaranteed contracts and sign Johnson.  Is there a cap space trick involved?

Yes.  Houston is over the cap at this point.  Give the amount they're over the cap, they can take back 50% +100k of the salaries they send out.  (Twitter also thinks they have an $11 million trade exception, but I don't see how they got that unless I missed a trade yesterday or this morning.  They didn't have it Thursday.)

Not sure that Houston has anyone left after the Chris Paul trade.  I just hope that the Celtics aren't trading for Ryan Anderson.

JJ Redick has agreed to a one-year, $23 million deal with the 76ers, league sources tell ESPN.

Fultz and Redick is a nice backcourt.

A lot of shooting. Ball-handling. Passing. Good complement to Simmons and Embiid.

I give the sixers 35 wins next year at most.

People need to remember that they'll be handing over their offense to two rookies and a big man who has played half a season.

Based off the below site, I got roughly 7 mil in non guaranteed contracts. So roughly 10.5 million-sih?

Edit: Didn't realize one of those guys isn't on the team anymore. So closer to 5.5 mil in non guaranteed deals so roughly 8 mil

They won 28 games last season without Simmons, Fultz and Redick. Embiid only played 31 games.  Their starting PG was McConnell a 2nd year undrafted player.

Pho's probably right. The Timberwolves won 31 games last year with KAT, Wiggins, Levine (47 games) and Dunn. It's tough to win in the NBA with very young players. Philly's biggest advantage is that they play in the weaker East.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Holy cow, Reddick got 23 million for one year. Let's just wait one more week and let all the teams run out of cap space then lowball players.

The problem is that all the good players will be gone.

So far Reddick and Holiday are the biggest surprises to me.

It is tough to win in the NBA with players who don't play defense.  The Sixers biggest advantage is Embiid.  If he stays healthy, the Sixers should be a top 10 defense and should make the playoffs.

Sounds like Iggy is headed back to Golden State.

Wow. People thought it was impossible they bring back Iggy and Livingston and then resign Durant. All 3 must be taking pay cuts of some sort.

It was impossible to sign those guys and sign Durant to a full max. Instead, they'll sign Durant to a 1 + 1 deal using non-Bird rights, costing him about $3 million this year. Then he'll get a full max next year.
