This is kind of slipped into this column, but windhorst notes both want to sign with cavs if they secure buyouts. To me this is a little funny cause I don't think either really helps the Cavs. The cavs can already outscore anyone in the league, their problem is defense against the warriors. They could also use some front court players to exploit the warriors down there. Adding two scorers that are below average defensively and old doesn't seem to help at all. These signings would decrease the chances of the Celtics beating them. What do you think? I think the cavs would be better off targeting a tony Allen type

Wade can pick up his $24 million option for next year and then immediately ask for a buyout?

I think Anthony makes a lot more sense than Wade, unless the Cavs can somehow dump Smith on someone.  Anthony would be a pretty solid small ball 4 for the Cavs at least offensively, and I think he would do ok guarding someone like Green on the other end of the floor.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I think that both players, particularly Anthony, would limit how much the Cavs are blown out by when LeBron is off the court.  Is that enough to pass the Warriors?  Who knows, but it certainly would be impactful.

But the LeBron Superfriends team is one reason I'm okay with the Celtics not making a splash this summer.  If the Cavs are able to add above-average starter quality players for the minimum, there really is no point.  Preserve the current roster, keep folding in all the young players, and be ready for a run of dominance starting in a couple of years.

I could see maybe Wade a little later in the year after he's put some money into the Bulls organization by putting butts in the seats, but isn't Carmelo owed like $50+ million over the next two years? I don't see how he gets bought out this year unless he's willing to take a massive pay cut, which is unlikely.

yeah, sure they would, but i think that's only possible with the cavs signing them at vet minimum due to their cap situation, or doing something alike the Nets, like giving the next decade of first rounders that will go much further than the LeBron era.

I have much more respect to Wade as a player that I do for Melo.

what bothers me about this is the continued collusion of players trying to build their own super teams and this buddy-buddy atmosphere where they place more importance on playing with each other than trying to beat each other.

really growing to hate the NBA.  anything not Celtics-related, i have no interest in at this point with this league.

By all means Cavs sign both.

A great example of the character, and desperation of both players to remain viable, and a wonderful way to improve the D, not to mention the club house of the Cavs.

Plus after the Carpetbagger "era" is over in Cleveland they can just all buy the team in a fire sale. Because someday you'll see the Cavs franchise being moved from Cleveland.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Defense and lack or production from anyone outside of their big 3 is why they loss. Carmelo>Love he will score when he's on the floor. Wade > anyone they have off the bench.
