Here's the thing that I wonder about:
Did Danny know about this deal and that's why he moved down to #3 - to get enough cap space to pull this off? If so, the dude is a genius - like "three moves ahead of everyone else" type genius.
Did he "know" that a deal would happen? Probably not.
Did he realize that such a deal could happen, and that trading down would give us more flexibility? Certainly.
Even the latter type of planning puts him way ahead of everyone else.
I mean, this is the thing. We tend to look at Danny's moves one by one, and find things to criticize in them. Which you can especially in hindsight.
But when you look at the big picture he has not just done amazing things in terms of putting us back in contention with a great chance to get even better. He's done it when there are 29 other guys, all getting paid millions of dollars, with their jobs on the line, competing head to head with him.
And even in that environment he has repeatedly left everyone else in the dust. Put yourself in the shoes of a Bucks fan. Or a Hornets fan. Or a Hawks fan. Or even a fan of a decent team like the Clippers. What those GMs have done looks like absolute kid stuff compared to what Danny is doing. And that's leaving teams like the Knicks and Kings out of the picture.
I don't know. I've seen a lot of GMs in a lot of sports try to build contenders over the years. Ainge is right up there.
