Nope, but there could be a bigger race this year for the bottom 5 with possibly the Bulls, Pacers, Knicks, Jazz, and Clippers depending on what happens with moves this summer with the star players.

Those two are irrelevant.

If they sign two "star" free agents, sure, but even if they have the cap room, would stars choose BRK over other teams?
This (no they wouldn't).

Were the Lakers a playoff team last year with those two, as well as better surrounding talent?

They wouldn't be in the top 8 teams in Europe. I mean it with a straight face. Top 16 in the NBA is way above their capabilities.

No way. At this point, they are both clearly below-average starters.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
If they win 20 games it will be a good season. 30 with Porter and KCP.

Assuming that the BKN roster stays the way it is, can Lin and Russell even be on the court at the same time? Hard to see either of them as a SG. It's pretty sad when your two best players play the same position.

I believe that now with Russel in the fold, Lin becomes their solid trade asset. The league still has demand for PNR ballhandlers and Lin is an adequate one. He has 1+1 contract at 12 mil guaranteed this year and 12,5 mil player option. They could squeeze a 1st rounder out of him at the deadline and they currently don't have one. I think that deadline is the day cause of Lins currently depressed value. 3 good months of tutoring Russell and uping his stock is a way for the Nets to maximize the situation.

The answer to the question is NO.  They got worse at the center spot and better at the SG spot, but not by a ton.  Russell will be a volume shooter who I doubt makes anyone on the team better.  Mozgov is slow of foot and won't help Russell much on the break, if anything he may bog things down...

The Nets play a lot of their games against the atlantic division which will be much improved with Philly and Boston getting better.

They're probably now on the short list of contenders.
