Except for Anthony Davis, which we all know IS NOT HAPPENING.
Seeing the thread about the Pacers and Lakers 'talking' Paul George, I agree with what the OP says. That could be REAL bad regarding the 2018 Lakers Pick. Even if they add George and don't make the playoffs next season, it's highly unlikely that pick is even in the Top-7 or 8, so we'd get the 2019 pick.
The Nets Pick is our most likely shot at a Top-5 pick in next year's loaded draft still. A draft that, as we all know, is loaded with potential, franchise changing big men.
That's not to say the 2018 LAL pick isn't valuable, but if the Lakers add George, that complicates things a lot.
And honestly, even if the Nets add a few "second tier, solid free agents" this summer, will they be better than all of Phoenix, Lakers, Sixers, Wolves, etc.?
I think all those teams improve, even marginally, and some of those teams (like the Lakers) don't really have an incentive to tank next season, so they could try and win as many as possible given their current roster.
So unless Anthony Davis is available, that 2018 Brooklyn Pick needs to be untouchable. Even for Porzingis, I wouldn't be willing to give that up along with #3, another future pick, and maybe 1-2 players. No way.
