I'm guessing there are two reason Danny made the trade.

1.  He like a couple of other players as much or close to as much as Fultz.  Probably Jackson and Tatum.

2.  There is some impressive size at the top of next years draft which something we are lacking.

According to DraftExpress, 3 of the top 4 in next year's draft are:

Porter - 6'10', 7' wingspan
Ayton - 7'0", 7'5" wingspan
Bamba - 7'0", 7'9" wingspan

By getting the LA pick along with Brooklyn's pick, we have a very good shot at getting one of these guys.
Porter is a wing too, which makes his size quite intriguing. If all goes to plan, we could get TWO of those three, not to mention Doncic.

Risky, but also quite exciting if it all goes right.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

This trade also shows DA has enough confidence in yr 3 Rozier than any pg's available in this draft.

My question really is this...

Do we really need to trade for Jimmy Butler if we are to get Jackson/Tatum who by all accounts are a clone to what we would get in Butler only cheaper and of course being inexpirience?. We would even have to give up Crowder or AB to match salaries which may deplete our bench....Thoughts?
C's would likely have to send the #3 pick to Chicago (plus other picks, plus matching salaries among Crowder/AB/Zeller to make the deal), so you don't get Jackson/Tatum  :-\

I don't want butler if it means giving up a high pick.  He's signed for 2 more years and it doesn't guarantee he will be here after that.  If Tatum or Jackson are the pick and in 2-3 years are on par with 2017-2017 butler then they have 10 more years of that player versus 2-5 of butler.  We know how good Butler is.  He will only regress with age.  the young pick will only improve with age.

Butler complain a lot. He's the kind of player to disrupt team chemistry, same with George. Wonder if we can get George for a heavily protected first, James Young, Demetrius, Mickey and a bunch of 2nd

Danny made the trade because he doesn't think Fultz is going to be the next Harden. If he did think he was the next Harden, he would never give him up for $2mil in cap space or for a short-term size need.

Thing is we have IT, Rozier showed flash against the wiz and both Bradley and Smart are too valuable defensively for the team. Either one can play w/ Isaiah and guard his match effectively, Fultz isn't there yet. Money was a factor but it's not everything
If you have the chance to draft a potential top-5 player, you just do it. You don't worry about the fact that he's not "there yet" (news flash - Josh Jackson and next year's Laker's pick aren't there yet either). It just comes down to Danny/the rest of the FO not thinking that Fultz was as good as everyone says he is.

Explanation: We get an extra lottery pick in 2018 or 2019 while only moving back two spots in a draft that GMs seem to think the top 4 are a lot closer than we and the media do.

Possibility: We get an extra lottery pick in 2018 or 2019

Expectations: We use the picks
