He was the only one to accept the position. Everyone else rejected it and i cant blame them.

Imho the coach is non that important. Giannis will run the show. The biggest problem is the rest of the roster. I find it strange that Greece appearsas 4thfavourite for the 1st place......

Luka Babić (25) out for Croatia due to a knee injury. He was a contributor on a 1/4 finals team in the last years Olympics.
Good bench wing, solid in transition, long, switch happy, good on-ball defense and rebounding.

Croatia is getting weaker at the perimeter slots.

It's unclear what is going on with the roster. What I found online suggests that the Hellenic Basketball Federation compiled a list of players and Missas will not have much leverage in who gets called. I didn't like the sound of it, I just hope the reality is better what the leaks to the media suggest.

Greece's preliminary squad

http://www.fiba.com/eurobasket/2017/news/antetokoumpo-headlines-newly-appointed-missas-squad-for-fiba-eurobasket-2017

Some quick notes:

-they are in alphabetical order (except from the -kounmpo brothers whose order was reversed)
wrong

-it has  few veterans.  iirc Printezis and Bourousis arethe only ones over 30 yo. Still not as many players under 25/24 as originally anticipated.

-It's still preliminary, I remember reading that August and Dorsey among others might not join in the end.

Tyler Dorsey got injured. Doesn't seem to be serious (ankle sprain) but it's only 50 days to tip-off.

I also think there are too many teams, it seems 16 are enough to keep the talent level up.

I hope Gasol and Hernangómez brothers can go with us. Along with Ibaka/Mirotic, it would be the best inside rotation by far (I don't think I'm biased :-[)
That's not bias, that is common sense :)

Thanks. Apparently, all the Spanish NBA players except Calderón and Ibaka (Mirotic fits better here) will go to the competition, so we are a candidate for the final stages.

Are there any under 24 good enough to play?  Charalampopoulos could... But didn't get any playtime last year unfortunately. I love his BBall IQ but I think he is not good enough athlete...

Charalampoulos afaik is not playing. I've been told he has not developed much the last couple of years which is a pity.

Regarding young players: Giannis apart, his brother Thanasis is 24. Dorsey is 21, Auguste (I mispelled him as August in the previous post) 24, and Agravanis 22. There is also Papagiannis from SAC who is 20. I expect Agravanis to get mins since he plays for Olympiacos in the Euroleague. You can look him up on draft express.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Dimitris-Agravanis-42207/

A conservative guesstimate for the starting 5:

-guards: Calathes, and Mantzaris or Sloukas
-SF: Giannis
-PF: Printezis
-Center: Bourousis

So, no young starters outside Giannis. But until I see what Missas wants to do in friendlies I can't really say (and what I wrote might prove to be way off).

Our rotation will probably be:

Ricky Rubio/Sergio Rodríguez
Sergio Llull/Juan Carlos Navarro
Álex Abrines/Nikola Mirotic
Pau Gasol/Juancho Hernangómez
Marc Gasol/Willy Hernangómez

The other two will be Fernando San Emeterio and (maybe) Alberto Abalde.

Not available: Rudy Fernández, Felipe Reyes and José Calderón (rest), Víctor Claver (injury), Serge Ibaka (we have to choose Mirotic or him due to citizenship).

I'm on the road so I can't confirm this but I think agravanis will play with the junior NT.

I've watched Charalampopoulos a lot with the Jr NTs.... Judging basketball ability only he is much better than the Benders of the world. But his physical abilities don't help him. And I guess that is why Javi Pascual didn't give him playtime.

Btw Spain  misses top names and still is stacked... Amazing talent pool

Hungary's preliminary roster

Their captain, Adam Hanga, is prolly their most well known player. Drafted by the Spurs at #59 in 2011, he currently plays for Baskonia.

Hanga was signed by Barcelona this week, 3 years and 7,5 million euros.

With the peculiar system of offer sheets in the Spanish Corrupt League, this offer was matched by Baskonia, who doesn't have the economical resources to pay the player and now wants to negociate with Barcelona (refusing any deals at this moment).

Shane Larkin's case is the same, but only for two years.
