We've been quite solid right now and, what matters the most, integrating new players into the rotation looking into the future.

Pau Gasol and Navarro are 37, Rudy and Marc 32 and veterans such as Felipe Reyes or Calderón won't play anymore with the national team. It was needed.

It was only the first quarter really. Thing fell quickly apart in the 2nd quarter.

Truly amazing roster.

Bogdan Bogdanović just scored 6 points in one possesion, by hitting 2 threes. Near 5 min 4qtr mark vs Turkey. Only possible under FIBA rules.
There was an on ball screen foul, where he rose for a long jumper to hit his 1st. Since Turkey wasn't in the bonus, Serbia got the ball on the side. BB took the ball again and hit another clutch three from the similar spot.

Tomorrow Spain will face Croatia in one of the best matches this preliminary round can offer.

I've also seen today's game of Montenegro. Bojan Dubljevic has been very good last years in Spanish league and today he was pretty solid again. I'd keep an eye on him to a possible NBA future, as he's still 25-26.

Our coach, Aco Petrović (Dražens older brother), sounded like we are going to compete and not rest some players for the already secured 1/8 finals. However, we want to avoid Serbia and the host, Turkey. I am not putting that much hope in our win over Spain.

We haven't played Pau Gasol today to rest him, so I guess Scariolo is giving much importance to our game against Croatia to get a better Last 16 game.

Let's see, it may be a semifinal when the tournament advances, or something like that.

Assuming Spain finishes first and Croatia second (or vice versa), they can only meet again in the Finals - for 1st or 3rd place).

This is true for any couple of teams finishing 1st and 2nd in their group (also true for teams finishing 3rd and 4th in the same group).

I found the video of the aforementioned play.
That's from -1 to +5 in the clutch.

Croatian article about Spain's Euro basketball dominance.
It says that Eurobasket hasn't seen this type of dominance for some 30 years, back in '89 and Yugoslavia (7 Croats, 4 Serbs and Zdovc PG from Slovenia, somehow they always have a good PGs) when it was hosting the competition. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EuroBasket_1989

Zdovc was amazing. He played many years in Greece.

I stopped watching the Gr-Finland game at the beginning of the 4th quarter. It was getting depressing.

Spain has been dominant for 18 years. It's crazy.

Sretenovic
Perasovic
Djordjevic
kukoc
Paspalj
Zdovc
Danilovic
Jovanovic
Divac
Komazec (what a player!!!)
Radja

Being able to watch Zdovc play every week was one of the best sports related experiences of my life...

Croatia made a good effort against Spain in a highly contested match. We lost, but can take a few pluses (and minuses) to the next, tournament phase.

- Bender started at the center. That proved to be a shrewd move. He scored 4 early pts, protected the rim and was engaged. He gained 15/20 lbs just within this year in Phoenix and now looks as a 7 footer should. He still moves very well for his length.
- Croatia has a general problem with playmaking. This game Simon carried the most of the primary ballhandling duties, as we desperately lack a penetrating guard.
- Marko Tomas is a type of player Spain needs, a 3&D guy. He was trouble for Spaniards at the start of 4th.
- Spain (Gasol brothers) didn't capitalize on the near the basket tries, having 7 off boards more but was net 0 in 2nd chance points. The length was present on the other side too.
- Croatia has some bench contributors in energy big Žorić, bench gunner/spacer in Popović
- With a 4-man-lineup of Bogdanović/Šarić/Bender/Tomas Croatia has a core that IMHO just a few teams can matchup with. The length, shooting, and switchability of these 4 are a lot for this level of competition, a star power deficient Eurobasket. If only we had a solid 1st guard, then we would really take off and be a surefire medal candidate.
As far as in know we don't have that guy in the pipeline.

@ederson
Happy to hear that someone remembers Komazec. He was a pure scorer and had a dangerous 3pt shoot considering the era.
