how many #1 overall picks have actually been traded before/on draft day?

2.

1) The Celtics trading future  Joe Barry Carroll for Robert Parrish and future Kevin McHale
2) The Magic trading future Chris Webber for future Penny Hardaway and 4 future role players.

The last top-five pick to be traded before its selection was in 2008, when the Celtics traded future Jeff Green to Seattle for Ray Allen.

And Danny at the time called this trade...."the trade of the century."

Hell no I won't go! Philly 18 could be poop! They almost had a chance at the playoffs this season!! NO.

This.  If I'm trading Fultz, I want more back than poop.   >:(

You trade aging stars for a chance at the number one pick, when you have the number one pick you don't trade it for another chance or two at the number one pick. This is stupid.

It took the C's how long to land the number one pick? We won't land there again.

No, it was Penny and 3 first round picks, two of which eventually became Vince Carter and Mike Miller.

Celtics are the ones getting fleeced

Danny trying to squeeze the last drop of value is going to trade the obvious best pick for Tatum / Monk and a Laker top 10 pick. ......or Lakers get PG  and it goes to 10 or worse .

Danny is way over thinking this ......you got a rare chance for a exceptioanl player .......you take him.

How do you know who the exceptional player is ? Right now, for me, it's Fultz, Jackson, or Tatum. Nothing guaranteed though & nobody can say who will be better

Flutz has been the # 1 rated prospect for a year now .  pretty much 99 % of the experts says he is clearly the best .

I m thinking he is a better prospect than a gamble of LA or Philly picks that might not be as great as everybody expects .  LA can sign George , amybe other vets and Philly too and play ball .......the top five picks people think we are getting turn into 10-17 and we are screwed .  I d rather takebthe top star prospect in this this draft ....than count on LA being a lottery pick .

I kept saying this, but this is how Danny gets the fleece.

1. Draft Markelle Fultzat #1.

2. Trade him to whoever drafts Josh Jackson, and get some more assets in return. Ask for EVERYTHING they can give, and don't settle for less. If it's the Lakers, ask for Jackson, Zubac, Randle, a future pick. If it's the Sixers, do the deal that has been "in place".

If they (the team who has Jackson) decline, we get the best player in the draft. In turn we still get to fleece the Nets.

If they agree, the fleece is on.

Don't overthink this, Danny.

On the one hand, this could go poorly. On the other hand, it could go rather well. The dream:

1. Celtics trade #1 + AB to the Sixers for Embiid + #3 (!)
2. Lakers, thinking Celtics want Jackson, reach for him at #2 and try to get Ainge to trade up.
3. Ainge laughs and takes Ball.
4. Ball turns into a 6'6 Chris Paul
5. Embiid is healthy the rest of his career, becoming better than Hakeem Olajuwan.
6. 2022 Celtics make 2017 Warriors look like amateurs.

But that's not factoring in things such as.. .

1. Lonzo's dad would make Brad Stevens quit.

2. Lonzo's dad would scare free agents away.

3. Lonzo's dad is crazy.

Zach Lowe is saying that it's 3 and ONE additional first. If that's true, then Danny's got himself a "Brooklyn type fleecing" alright. We'll see how he enjoys the role of Billy King this time.

Indeed.

The Sixers get the best player in the draft, and we get an upgraded Jaylen Brown, with no certainty of the 2018 pick being good.

This is just flat out dumb. I refuse to believe that Danny is this dumb...
