How many times has this happened. Two MVP players Curry and Durant I. Their absolute prime, destroying the competition on the same team.

This was Brian Whindhurst thoughts on ESPN tonight. Don't think we have seen this much, if at all.

Cousy(57) and Russell(58, 61-63,65)
Yeah. We know how Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing dominant this squad was.

Malone(79,82-83) and Erving(81)
82-83 6ers went 65-17 and then proceded to go 12-1 win the playoffs in one of the greatest seasons of all time.

Abdul Jabbar(6x from 71-80), Johnson(87,89-90)
Not sure Id really count the Abdul Jabbar/Magic pairing because by the time Magic was an MVP, Abdul Jabbar was 39.

other primish MVPs to play together would be Kobe and Shaq although Kobe wouldnt win his MVP award untill long after shaq left, and Duncan and David Robinson. Although Robinson won his MVP before Duncan entered the league and Robinson was averaging just 12 and 8 by the time Duncan won his first.

Id say when your two best comps are the 82-83 Sixers and the late 50s/60s Celtics, you are in really good shape.

In 1996-97, the 92-93 MVP (Barkley) joined the 93-94 MVP (Olajuwon) in Houston.  Barkley was 33 during that season so a bit past his prime but still early averaged 20 and 10.  Olajuwon was 34 but averaged 23 and 9.  They also had a past his prime Clyde drexler too.

Nash and Dirk played together just before their primes (and before either was a mvp)
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The funny thing is, if Westbrook wins the MVP this year, the last few years' OKC teams would retroactively fit the bill.

Bird and Walton played together but Walton was past his prime.

The Lakers had 3 MVPs on one squad...Magic, Kareem and MacAdoo

Whenever an MVP switches a team, odds are, that team wins a championship. I forget the exact stat but I remember that was quoted when Shaq moved to the Heat.

McHale on any other team would have been an MVP, so Bird and McHale should be in consideration.

Westbrook, Harden, and Durant may have been the most talented trio of superstars the NBA would have seen in a long time had they been allowed to stay together.  I mean, look how young they were when they made their one an only Finals appearance.

isn't that poor management though? If I remember correctly, didn't they trade Harden because they didn't want to pay him when he becomes a FA that year?

Yes, OKC feared it would put them in the luxury tax.  I have no sympathy for them.  If you aren't willing to pay your talent than you deserve what you get.

They were like 4.5 million apart.  Not ANNUALLY, total contract life.  The Thunder offered him an extension for 4 years at 55.5 million.  The max was 60 million, Harden wouldn't sign the extension because he wanted the max and OKC traded him.

Here is an article on it.  Just crazy stuff.
