Given Marcus' strength, it was nice to see him get the ball in the post a little more this season. But it was frustrating to watch because it seemed like he rarely got himself a good shot and often missed makeable layups. I think he is relying too much on force and needs to get better footwork.

Maybe IT can hook him up with Kobe this summer. Or bring McHale in to consult. If Marcus can improve his footwork I think his post game could become a real weapon.

I also think better footwork could improve his balance and that might help him make the open shots (both long range and at the rim) that he struggles to convert.

The thing about Marcus Smart in the post is that he needs to right matchup. Against almost any PG he has a physical advantage, even a lot of scoring guards. But since he's so often playing with IT and Bradley against SF that advantage disappears. He can have all the great post foot work he wants but he's undersized for small forward and not very athletic

His footwork often hurts his jumper too.

This is what I'm thinking. Better footwork could mean better shots in the post (when he has the right match up) but also more consistent shooting from the outside if his balance is better.

Smart should hire Mark Price as a shooting coach this summer.
