1. Draft Fultz and Swanigan; use other 2nds on stashes;

2. Trade Avery Bradley for future draft picks (AB to Philly for 2020 OKC #1?);

3. Trade Demetrius Jackson to anyone willing, using a late #2 if necessary;

4. Renounce all free agents except KO;

5. Sign Gordon Hayward with cap space;

6. Sign Chris Bosh with $4.3 million room exception;

7. Sign Zizic and Nader; get Yabu to stay overseas

8. Sign KO

Horford / Zizic
Bosh / KO / Swanigan
Hayward / Crowder / Nader
Brown / Smart
IT / Fultz / Rozier

Bosh is determined to attempt a comeback, and based upon precedent in other leagues, I'm convinced he'll be able to play.

If there's any wiggle room in the cap, I'd hold off on trading Jackson and would try to trade him, Rozier no picks for Kyle O'Quinn.

This doesn't work under the cap. Olynk is looking at a payday at of at least 10m per year, I would suggest its closer to $14, no way you can sign both Hayward and re-up Olynk to a reasonable salary, even if you dump Bradleys $8.8 million contract

Even in this scenario below where you renounce all FA's (including Olynk) you are around $5 Million below a max for Hayward, I think Abdel Nader will also be on the roster at around $800,000 and he's not mentioned in the scenario below.

1   Bradley          $8,808,989
2   Brown, Jaylen   $4,956,480
3   Crowder, Jae   $6,796,117
5   Horford, Al   $27,734,405
6   Rozier, Terry   $1,988,520
7   Smart, Marcus   $4,538,020
8   Thomas, Isaiah   $6,261,395
9   Yabusele, Guerschon   $2,247,480
10   Žižić, Ante   $1,645,200
11   Fultz   $7,026,240
12   2017 Pick #37   $815,615
13   2017 Pick #53   $815,615
14   2017 Pick #56   $815,615
   Projected Salary-   $74,449,691
   Projected Cap   101,000,000
   Celtics Cap Space   $26,550,309

That's not true. You just have to account for KO's cap hold, which is $7.7 million. Then, you can go over the cap to sign him.

Subtract Yabu, Bradley, and the 13th and 14th cap charge.

Who CARES if we go over the cap??  We HAVE to do so to compete for a title!!!!

You can only sign certain free agents to certain contracts when you're over the cap. If we want to sign Hayward, we have to manage our cap space very carefully.

1. Draft Fultz + someone at #37

2. Keep Yabusele overseas

3. Renounce all free agents except KO

4. Re-negotiate IT to the $25,250,000 max

5. Use the room exception to sign a big man (I don't know who yet but it would be someone to fill the Amir Johnson role on this team)

6. Sign Zizic

7. Sign KO to $14m deal for 4 years

8. Trade Rozier and rights to Nader for either a big man or a future pick (not sure on this one yet)

KO/Zizic
Horford/Room exception
Crowder/Brown/Pick #37
Bradley/Smart
IT/Fultz/Rozier/Jackson

Not yet sure on #8 whether it would be best to move Rozier or play more small ball next year. There will end up being a casualty from drafting Fultz though. IT on the re-negotiated contract makes a transition to Fultz easier as we don't have to commit to such a long contract in 2018

1. Draft Fultz
2. Sign Gordon Hayward (what seems logical is logical)
3. Renounce all FAs (including KO... one game doesn't make me want to commit to him)
4. Sign Alex Len (to a 1+1 deal for $10m/year; year 2 team option)
5. Bring over Zizic, bring up Nader and leave Yabusele overseas (he'll be healing from recent surgery anyways)

PG: Thomas/Fultz
SG: Bradley/Smart/Rozier
SF: Hayward/Brown/Nader
PF: Crowder/Len
C: Horford/Zizic

It's sinking in that Bradley is the most likely one to go in order to clear cap space for Hayward.

My question is what do you think our net increase in wins will be with these changes?

You have to factor in another year older for Horford, if you think IT can have another magical year, what do we realistically expect from Bosh, and not to be underrated the dynamic of Bradley being able to guard PGs with Thomas guarding off the ball.

Maybe 5 more wins?

I'd put us in the 54-58 win range, yeah. We'd be much more balanced in the playoffs, though.

If we keep Bradley, we can't keep Rozier.

There's no cap room to sign Len.

Getting Bosh (assuming his health checks out) would be a stellar pick up for us. Next to Horford and Hayward that's quite a formidable trio - combining that with our flexible back court with IT, Smart, Fultz and Brown is a dream come true really.
Very flexible all over (maybe a bit shallow if we're relying on Zizic much) but still intriguing.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Sure, until he pulls a Reggie Lewis and dies on the court. I'd be petrified of signing Bosh. He'd be a perfect fit for what we need buy I doubt his health checks out.

Honestly I don't see any team taking the risk. It would be a PR disaster waiting to happen. I'm not sure how the league office would feel about it either

I don't think you can sign Alex Len after Hayward, even renouncing Olynyk.

1. Draft Fultz
2. Trade IT to the Mavs for the 9th pick.
3. Draft Isaac
4. Sign Hayward

Alternatively
1. Draft Fultz
2. Trade IT to the Sixers for Saric (imo Saric > #9)
3. Sign Hayward

Alternatively (pipe dream scenario)
1. Draft Fultz
2. Trade IT + Memphis 2019 first + rights to Zizic for Myles Turner
3. Sign Hayward

Fultz - Smart
Bradley - Brown
Hayward - Crowder
Saric/Isaac/Turner - veteran via free agency
Horford - Zizic/veteran via free agency

Roy - I have to give this plan an 11/10. I don't have too much understanding of the salary cap, so it's good to know that a great case scenario such as this is even possible. The hypothetical roster you lay out has the potential to win now and simultaneously indoctrinate the young guys (Fultz, Brown, Smart, Zizic) into a culture of winning.

If we can get a healthy Bosh, that would be huge. That's a big if though. I'm sure if he gets medical clearance then he will receive a lot more attractive options --> Going to CHI with his buddy D-Wade, going back to a good Raptors team, teaming up with LeBron in CLE, ring chasing in GSW or SAS. Even his hometown Mavericks will have cap space.

It will be interesting to see how Swanigan's workouts go. I'll be surprised if he stays in the draft.

The guy is 6'7 and can't jump, and isn't an NBA athlete. I don't think he can be much more than a guy on the end of the bench.

Good thread TP, Roy.   Like the Oquinn idea too, solid rotation big who can shoot
