Considering how poorly PF's that have a limited perimeter game have fit in Stevens' system (see Lee, Mickey, B. Wright, etc.) why does anyone believe Bell would fare any differently?
DX on Bell
Skill wise, Bell's offensive production as a scorer is very much a work in progress. While he has shown improvement with his back to the basket, he lacks any real advanced moves and relies on short jump hooks around the rim. His touch around the basket comes and goes, and he can be turnover prone creating on the low block when faced with pressure. He shot just 10 for 31 on jumpers this year, with the majority of those makes coming inside of 17 feet. He struggles with consistency on his perimeter shot, and often passes up open looks without creating any real high percentage opportunities off the bounce. His release is on the slow side and he gets an inconsistent trajectory on his shot outside of mid-range areas. His ability to improve on his jump shot will be key to opening up the rest of his offensive game, and allowing for better team spacing as defenses don't currently have to worry about him stretching the floor.
because Bell is a more versatile defender than those players.
Bells toughness + explosiveness will be a welcome addition to the team.
Yes he doesn't bring much to the table on the offensive end. But he is not a clutz. He has decent passing skills and able to find the open shooter. Straight line drives are not easy to stop due to his quickness/explosiveness. Able to finish through contract. Drop offs usually turn into easy slams/buckets. FT percentage has improved to 70 percent
Celtics have too many soft front court players like KO and in some ways Horford. Yes CBS likes these stretch bigs ...but this Cavs series should make him realize (Bell or whoever else) you need a frontcourt player like Bell to be able to battle likes of Thompson and make Lebron/Irving think twice before driving in
