Nikola Pekovic's contract would be used to match and may become a valuable trade asset (12 mill expiring). Dieng gives us lockdown post d, rebounding, and a commanding 15-20 foot jumpshot. Use the 6th pick to get Monk, Isaac, Smith, Fox, or Markkanen. Preferably Monk.
This, of course, is a hypothetical trade given where Minnesota is projected to land in the draft. They are thirsty to bring in veterans in an attempt to make a big leap next season. Defensive oriented coach Thibodeau would jump at the chance to coach two pit bulls like AB and Crowder. The question then becomes - are they willing to sacrifice a high pick in a loaded draft?
Some will see this as a step back for the Celtics, but I see this as a trade that I could see paying off big time in the next 3-5 years for Boston. Monk, Smith, Isaac, Fox would all be top 3 picks in a less endowed (normal) draft, and their ceilings sky rocket Crowders or Bradley's.
Bradley will command more than we will be willing to pay him after next season. Retaining both he and Thomas would be almost impossible. Let Minny have the headache of signing a stroky 6"2 injury prone SG to a 18m + a year contract.
Imagine drafting Tatum and then pulling off this trade and bringing in Monk as well. Losing Bradley and Crowders defense would be a small price to pay to bring in that type of offensive fire power.
Then sign Hayward and flip Rozier and a 2nd for a big like Willy Hernangomez for roster balance..
