This player fills a position of need, he can be a go to option on offense. He's tough as nails, plays great defense. Shoots the three. And is no spring chicken.

Paul Milsap. Already has chemistry with Al.

 Horford
 Milsap
 Crowder, Brown, Tatum or Jackson
 Bradley, Fultz or Ball
 Thomas

If we don't pick up Hayward we can draft Tatum or Jackson. Milsap fills a lot of holes.

Why do you call Millsap "overlooked"?

All that's really talked about around here is Hayward and Blake.

People didn't really want to recreate the Hawks Frontcourt.

And we have a youth movement and Milsap is older than Big Al.

I've thought about Milsap quite a lot because he probably will be more available than Hayward or Griffin if he ever wants to have a shot at a ring and he fits better than Hayward. Better defender than Griffin too.

Millsap's case is a difficult one to assess.

I think most of us would be glad to pay him the maximum next year. But he'll look for at least a three-year contract, and some teams will offer it without hesitation. Would I pay a 33 year-old Millsap max money? No doubt, absolutely. But would you pay a 36 year old Millsap that money? That's when the issue starts to look different.

He's no spring chicken, but he's not getting any younger either. I'd be wary to offer him more than 3 years. The guy is on athletic decline.

He'd be a nice consolation prize in the free agency if we struck out in both Hayward and Griffin.

Probably overlooked because he's unwanted...

I don't think he will leave ATL unless he gets more years elsewhere, which I doubt.

If Millsap was like 28 this would be a no brainer.

I want NO part of having 2 mid thirties max contracts on my roster in 2-3 years though.

Millsap is a non-ring chasing David West....slightly better.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

TP,KGLL.

Millsap was overlooked coming out of college and I agree that many people have been dismissive of him here as a FA for us, mainly because of his age.

The guy is a tough, position rebounder, not overly reliant on athleticism, but rather strength and guile. He reminds me of a bigger, stronger Paul Silas. Millsap's game will age well.

I would rather bank on Millsap not breaking down than Blake Griffin. (Of course, if you could guarantee that Griffin won't break down, I'd take him, but that's a potential franchise-crippling gamble.)

I, as others on this thread, have suggested over the past month or two that he should strongly be considered by us in FA.

He and Horford and IT keep us contending-relevant for the next 3-4 years, and we get to add BK '17 and '18 to Brown and Smart to contend into the future.

Hayward's my first FA choice, but Millsap is 2nd.

If so,we haven't done too well against ourselves.
