You're very well looking at what could be the answer to "Who is the only NBA MVP not to make it to the Hall of Fame?"
All the more frustrating because, as far as I'm concerned, that award belongs to Dwight Howard.
Sorry if I'm missing something but when did Dwight win MVP?
He didn't. That's the point. Rose won the award that should've gone to Dwight in '11.
Rose was better than Dwight in 11. MVP also is about making your team better and Howard I don't think has done that ever, IMO. It is going to be interesting to see if he ever is a starter in this league again.
Agreed. Rose went for 25 & 8 assists and Chicago won 62 games, 21 more than the year before. Howard put up impressive stats (23 & 14) but his team won 10 fewer games than Chicago and 6 fewer than they won the year before.
Team performance has to be taken into account and when you put up great stats but your team gets worse then you're not as likely to win the trophy.
I couldn't disagree more. Dwight Howard was by far the best offensive player on his team and the best defensive player in the entire league. The Bulls won 62 games because of their defense, which Rose had nothing to do with. The Magic won 52 games because everything on both sides of the court ran through Howard. He carried them.
If you replace Rose on that Bulls team with a decent PG, they still win 50 games because of their defense and they had other scorers. If you replaced Dwight that year with a decent center, I think they're one of the worst teams in the league.
