Can't believe he moved Yabu up to 14. He didn't think much of his Summer League performance.
He's going to have the same problem in the NBA as he had last summer, i.e., getting swallowed up underneath the basket. Plus, some of his pre-draft defense videos were scary bad. Hopefully, he's been working with someone to help him be more responsive.
One thing I couldn't understand and upset me is why Danny didn't draft Zubac. Now I find out he had that serious ankle surgery. Could be a problem down the road. Maybe not drafting him will prove to be a good decision.
I think that two factors weigh in there:
1) He'd already taken Zizic who was considered to have the highest upside of the two big Zs (and I see no reason to think that has changed) and
2) Zubac probably didn't want to be stashed.
I'm not really feeling any regret about this. Taking Zubac, say, at the #31 pick, might seem like a lost opportunity, but opportunity has costs. It would mean we'd have had him added to the roster crunch and probably have not re-signed Zeller (another 'Z') in order to make room for Zubac on the roster, but it's doubtful to me that he would have gotten any more minutes than Zeller. Probably less. He'd have been a rookie 2nd rounder on a playoff-bound team. He more likely would have spent the year like D-Jax, getting minutes in Maine. So, how impressive would he have looked in this alternate universe? And in this alternate universe we would not have the Clippers future pick.
It is important to always gauge the scenario in which rookies are playing. When they are on a crappy lotto team getting lots of minutes they can often look a lot more impressive than a rookie fighting to get minutes on a contender (or stashed in Europe or the D-League).
