Simple straight forward question. I've noticed Tyler has taken Jonas's spot in the rotation the past couple games and has played reasonably well IMO.  I like the added size, and Tyler can score more around the basket.  Jonas has more range out to the 3 point line, and can guard the small ball 4s.  I feel though we get killed on the boards more when he plays.

I know Jonas played great for us in the playoffs last year, but I'm going with Tyler if it comes down to between the 2.

Both?
We get 12 for playoff no?
I am guessing Jordan, Young and Jackson are out.

All about the matchups.

Teams with lots of size, Tyler.

Teams with lots of smaller ball, Jonas.

Role playing big men with distinct defensive jobs.

Entirely dependent upon the matchup, as wdleehi said. Although in a vacuum I'd probably lean towards Jonas Zeller. Not sure how I made that slip-up.

Agree that it depends on the matchup, which Brad said as well recently.

I like Zeller a lot, probably more than most.  Plays hard, has nice range on his jumper, and is one of the best big men at running the floor.

Plus he doesn't mess around when dunking.  Nothing fancy, just throws it down!

Brad has said we may need size in the playoffs so he's giving Tyler a run out. I think Green will be in the same boat, depending on matchup one of those 3 will see minutes on a day to day basis. The core 8 guys will see the minutes against all opponents

Well, since the Celtics face bigger front lines almost every night (and that won't change for the playoffs), it's going to be Zeller.  Brad stated in the post-game that he is trying to give Zeller the reps against these bigger front lines.  However, he also tempered his comments by saying that Jerebko, Rozier and Green will also be needed ("We will need everyone.").  The reality is that the playoffs usually mean shorter rotations.

IMO, Jerebko and Mickey just aren't big enough to match up well in the playoffs.

This is true.  Our first round matchup could be any one of a number of teams.  Playoff basketball can tend to slow down though which is why I would lean towards the bigger player in Tyler.

In a vacuum I take Jerebko, but I really do like Zeller (more than most it seems) as a bench big.

Match ups matter but it's not as simple as "If the other team is bigger, go big." It's better if you can force your opposition to play your way, rather than bend your lineup to play there's. If the other team has bigs that can't keep up with Jonas, that's a potential mismatch in our favor.

But that means Jonas stepping up, which he did do for us last year in the playoffs.

I have to say that Tyler Zeller should be given a lot of credit for just sitting and rotting on the bench the whole season and being ready to play these last 2 games and playing pretty effectively. Agree about the matchups scenario on who and when you play them but I am just saying that I have to give credit for his readiness.

Depends on the matchup.

Also depends on which Zeller and Jerebko shows up. If both 2014 Zeller and Playoffs Jerebko show up, much better for us.

I think Brad is making the right move by going with Zeller.  He is bigger than Jerebko and has a decent mid-range jumper.  Jerebko has had his moments but overall I'm disappointed in how he fit on this team.

Right now Zeller plays better with Kelly. And Kelly is the guy in the second unit that makes plays.

It depends on who we're playing.  As much as I dislike Zeller there are games he's been effective.  So yea, it depends on the match-up.  Jonas is always the safe bet though.
