Okafor or Noel, Covington, 2017 Lakers 1st, 2018 Sacto 1st

for

George

Philly offered that knowing George might likely leave after next season.  The author thinks Philly dodged a bullet, but I think that would have been a good trade for both teams (especially with Sacto looking like they might bottom out a bit).

Article also says Indy wanted the BKN 17 pick and 3 of Crowder/Brown/Bradley/Smart from Boston.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Phili was trying to move Noel or Okafor to anyone and didn't get much interest. Also, neither of those two help the Pacers much with Turner there.

It says what the Pacers wanted, but didn't say what the Cs were offering. That's only relevant because of this statement:

Quote
The Indiana Pacers nearly dealt All-Star forward Paul George at the Feb. 23 trade deadline with the most lucrative trade offer coming from the Boston Celtics.

I'm assuming that he meant to say that the Pacers were requesting a more lucrative offer, not the Cs offering it.

I still want to know what the "monster" offer from Denver was.

2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Considering that the Laker pick has good odds of not being conveyed, this trade essentially was Noel (same position as their best player after the trade,) Covington, and the 2018 Sac pick...

So yea that offer is awful.

I'll expect another crackpot attempt by Indy to make a splash in FA in order to keep George. Make no mistake, if there was a time to trade PG and get SOMETHING back it was this last February. As it stands, his agent killed his trade value.

If I were Indy I would demand at least Saric in the deal along with Noel and the picks, and I would ask for the Sixers 2017 1st.

Crap trade for Indy.  No wonder they turned it down.

Wonder what the contingencies were on the Lakers 1st if not conveyed...

I feel that we did the right thing and keep the team.   Next years free agency will be key.  If we can land a All-Star Type player then add a top #3 pick we are on our way to being top 4 favorites in 2018.....

It really seems like the value of Philly's young players has been a lot less than they would have thought. They traded Noel for two second rounders and a fringe prospect (although they tried to trick people into thinking they were getting a first). Their top offer for Okafor was a top 20 protected first round pick.

Wonder how many other times they have offered around the Lakers pick and other picks to get a big name since BC took over.

what are you talking about.  The Lakers pick is top 3 protected this year but is totally unprotected next year.  Thus, it will absolutely convey in one of the next two drafts.

The Sacto pick is at this point an unprotected 2019 pick.

Agreed. Too much uncertainty with the protections surrounding the Lakers pick.

There is literally a zero percent chance that pick does not get conveyed... If it's 1-3 it then becomes an unprotected pick in 2018, coupled with an unprotected Sac '19, an above average SF making 1 million dollars a year this year and next, and a good defensive big.

Honestly, if I am the Pacers I probably say no to that too but it isn't a terrible offer.

Where does Philly own the 2018 SAC pick? I know they have swap rights this year, but this says their outright pick is 2019.

That is correct. If they had conveyed their pick last year to Chicago then Philly would have had the 2018 pick, but as they didn't it will be the 2019 pick.

I honestly don't know how much stock to put into this rumour. The details are wrong and the value of the two packages seems off. Those parts may have been in play for trades but not for George. More likely a smaller deal around Okafor for someone like Jefferson.
