This is easy.  Since in 2017 we know Boston will end up with a top 4 pick and have no idea what will happen in 2018, you take the 1st pick in 2018 and then pick 2, 3 or 4 in 2017.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

This is not true. If the Lakers finish worst, we end up with a top 5 pick. 5th pick in this draft is a big drop in talent level.

The Lakers are not going to finish behind the Nets.  5 losses with 12 games to play is a lot of ground to make up.

Eh, NO. If the Lakers finish worst, we could still end up first.

Or 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th, right?  If Nets finish worst we will be guaranteed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.  5th isn't a possibility in that scenario.

I voted 2018, seems like the PF/C class is deeper and I think based on mocks, you could get to even  four in 2017 and still get a transcending player: Fultz, Ball, Jackson, Tatum.

This is your belief, but not fact. Not yet.  Sorry, am superstitious about this stuff.

fine, but even then you take the guaranteed #1 and guaranteed top 5 pick over #1 and the complete and total unknown.

It is a lot of ground to make up, but remember that Brooklyn has zero incentive to keep losing while LA probably has the most incentive in the entire league to keep losing, considering that keeping their pick or not depends on it.  With that in mind, it's no surprise that Brooklyn has won 4 of their last 10 while LA has gone 1-9.

Will Brooklyn be a FA destination because of their lack of youth and picks making this poll kinda moot?
if you are arguing that FAs will flock to the nets because of cap space, a similar argument was made going into the current season as well.

having cap space doesnt guarantee FAs will want to play in brooklyn. i expect the nets to sell off players and take on bad salaries so as to accumulate draft picks. similar to what philly did and what ainge did by taking on the poison pill contract of wallace as part of the original trade with the nets.

for me, it makes sense that the nets will write off next year in order to build over the following years.

Brooklyn may have zero incentive to lose (of course they have had that all year), but Brooklyn has every incentive of keeping Lopez healthy, which will probably mean shutting him down at some point just like they did last year.

Ive got no idea how good the top of the '18 draft is.

Thats why I voted '18.
This is sort of how I feel. I'm in love with both Fultz and Jackson so if one of them can get got with the #2 or #3 pick, I'm happy. I'd rather have the versatility next year in a draft I don't know anything about yet.

I wasn't challenging your choice, I agree with it. Just your premise.
