Tonight is what it looked like when teams tried to get offensive rebounds.
Why can't we do this all the time?

Why can't we do this all the time?

I'm glad it happened, but I feel like it's a mirage, like I'm actually lost in the desert and this didn't really happen.

Them losing Gortat probably helped out a lot. It seemed like 2 of Jason Smith, Markief Morris and Otto Porter were their big guys for most of the night, and we exploited that. Even IT rebounded well.

I felt like we went back in time to the 1980's when teams actually crashed the offensive boards.
Guess what?
It works.

Because on most nights the other team tries to rebound as well.  I liked our effort on the boards, but that IT tip in at the end of the third amongst three Washington frontcourt players should pretty much describe the effort that team had for most of the night.

We could do better on many nights, but to do this well takes help from the opppsition.

I missed the game, but if Gortat went down, that explains a lot.

Bc we cant

Team rebounding is a consistent inconsistent thing

This is why you need one or two bonafide rebounders on your team

exactly.  Inconsistent rebounders will rebound inconsistently.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

But will they do so inconsistently?  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I think Rozier , Smart , Bradley , Brown and Crowder  do put the effort in.  Sometimes Al.

The rest of the team I have no faith much in rebounds .

IT has a pass on rebounds.

Our bigs DO NOT

Nothing as gutless as anonymous internet posters calling pro athletes battling with other 7', 250 pound pro athletes soft.

This thread is soft.

The players are not soft. For years coaches have told players that getting back on defense is more important than going for offensive rebounds. Obviously a conscious decision was made to go for offensive rebounds.

Gortat played ~12 minutes or so. You're not going to outrebound teams with Morris and Jason Smith in the front court -- not even the Celtics :D.

Gortat didn't go down.  He's been ineffective the last month or so, and was benched.  He's 34, and was run into the ground early in the year.  He averaged 35 minutes in October/November, over 36 minutes in December, 32-33 minutes in January and February, and under 24 minutes in March.

I've been saying for months that the Wizards were going to crash late in the season, because they relied way too much on their starters early on in the season, and that is coming home to roost.
