On the Lowe Post, Zach asked come free agency, will Boston Celtics resign Isaiah Thomas to a max 5 year deal in 2018? And Simmons says no, given he'll be 34 and earring 45 million a year being 5'7 is not a good idea. He predicted that if we get Fultz or Ball, Thomas will walk.

Simmons also conceded that if Boston makes the Conference Finals and goes toe to toe with Lebron you may have to max him.

I like Bill Simmons, but he is often wrong on predictions, like when he was so happy that we drafted James Young.

He also basically just reiterated points most people agree with. What happens if we do go toe to toe with Cleveland in the conference finals and still draft Fultz? Both can happen.

Simmons is about as good player picking as Magic Johnson.

Zach Lowe says that it's not likely but it's not crazy thought either, they also talk about that they will have huge cap problems coming up and the common thought is that Danny Ainge would trade his own mother to improve the team.

I know IT will probably want max, but I wonder if he would take a small discount to stay if Ainge explained to him the steps to become a contender (which would require certain FA moves and trades). Not at all saying low ball him big time, but maybe something like 5/150 instead of what projects to be like 5/179 I believe. Still a lot but not 45M/year by age 34. Maybe IT agrees to that if it pretty much means the Celtics can legitimately contend for years to come (not just settling for #2 or #3 seeds and banking on 2nd round appearances).

Why let him walk? If you're going to sign him, you trade him for value.

Personally I think he'll get max from Danny.

Yeah I really don't see him letting IT walk and he's not going to get full trade value from IT.

Plus without IT the team really isn't that interesting around the country/league.

I don't think you let "great stories" like IT with his size just leave via trade/FA.

No way Ainge lets IT walk. If anything, he will re-sign IT and then trade him a year into his new contract when he will still be very good and productive. He will also be signed for several additional years so the team acquiring him wouldn't need to worry about him leaving in FA.

This team is a lottery team without Isiah. No thanks on getting rid of him.
