#6 and #33 - Multiple titles and multiple league MVP awards.

The Celtics standard was and is way too low.

My idea:

The Celtics have a big KG and Pierce day, then have a big "Release" day where all the numbers besides #6 and #33 are released. The banners will remain with #6 and #33 getting their own special banner as the only legitimate retired numbers.
The only color that matters is GREEN

They should release them all and honor the players individually.

If that's the standard for a retired number than we would be lucky to have one every century.

They should do something, the numbers could get pretty ugly soon. Maybe have a few that are off limits. The iconic players.

Start a new banner with those.Have separate ones for the rest of the numbers next to their names. Re-release those numbers, but when a player is wearing them, maybe have a line go threw the middle. If they become an iconic player then it's retired for good, set a higher stander.

Start this with PP, and KG for the new retired numbers.

I see every one of those numbers as part of the Celtic' lore--would not be the same to change what is in the rafters.

the current team does not seem to have any trouble choosing numbers.

Imagine if it was applied league wide?

Russell - Celtics
Kareem - Lakers
Bird - Celtics
Magic - Lakers
Jordan - Bulls
Duncan - Spurs
Lebron - Heat

Is that it?

retired:
00, 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 31, 32, 33, 35, & 34 will be.

unretired:
0, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 20, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 36...99.

cripes folks. there are quite a few numbers left. the team only carries 15 players at a time. i dont see why this is an issue.

i hope the celtics keep it the way it is and give new numbers to new players.

I don't like the idea, because the jerseys and banners are part of our rich culture and history. Sure we are running out of numbers, but that's what sets us apart from other teams, 17 championships and multiple hall of famers...Pierce will be up there

Hate the idea.

Agreed.

Leave the numbers that are retired alone. It would be disrespectful to unretire those numbers.

there are still something like 78 unretired numbers under 100. 19 of those are below the number 40. the celtics could retire an entire team of players wearing numbers under 40 and still have a few left over.

i think it will take a while before the celtics run out of numbers.
