As tempting as it is to get someone uniquely talented as Cousins, the more I hear about his trade to Pelicans, the better I feel about the Celtics avoiding him.

Divac told Cousin's agent that they were thinking of trading him, so Cousin's agent threatens teams that Cousins won't resign with them...therefore lowering his value.

Imagine having to deal with Cousins next year whine about a contract or threatening the Celtics that he'll leave at the end of his contract. Manipulating and a head case. Bad combo.

This reminds me of when the Red Sox were looking to get A-Rod. Glad the Sox didn't do it (better yet...glad other forces stepped in and prohibited it from happening). Glad someone in the Celtic's brass stayed out of trade talks.

Cousins just isn't a player I would root for.

It's also noteworthy that like half the league elected not to go after him.

Pelicans took the risk but even they need to entice Anthony Davis before he gets real frustrated.

Top 10 talent, top 1 troublemaker.
Definitly happy to see him frown someplace else.
@Chef Parish good point on his extension, we have enough machinations without him.

To be fair, I don't think Cousins is as involved in those talks as his agent. Obviously his agent earns a slice of the pie and landing that $200M deal would make him a very rich man. I'd think it's Cousins' agent that leaks news about him refusing to resign with teams rather than DMC himself.

I have been against a Cousins acquisition from Day 1 - complete head case. Took him 2 games to pick up technical to earn another suspension. Most players are on their best behavior when they first get to a new team.

Technically, wasn't it Stevens who blocked the trade?

Actually more than half the league. With that garbage package they got back was there when a second team interested.

I haven't read anything that stated Stevens was the sole reason for the Cs not going after Cousins. I am pretty sure it was a total organizational decision to not even discuss a trade with the Kings. Also, I doubt Stevens has that type of power to dictate to Ainge and/or Wyc who the Celtics should persue and who they shouldn't.

NO is losing with Cousins.

Did anyone really think NO would start winning like crazy? I thought they'd probably finish with the same record with or without the trade at least for this year.

Now if they can get it together going forward, maybe we'll have something.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
