Joakim Noah done for the season.

How about him and his contract?

Tommy Point, I came to tell us about the news report.

4 years, 72 million completely wasted.

As for Horford himself, almost all of our offensive improvement this season is attributable to his passing, floor-spacing, and screen-setting.  You give up a little bit of rebounding for that but it's the cost of doing business.

Recent shooting slump notwithstanding, the only way you could possibly argue that he's a bad player is if literally the only stats you ever read are PPG and RPG.

In turn what about our defense disaster?

That's from missing Bradley and from Amir's physical decline. It's also not a total disaster, that defense has been good enough for the second seed and a legit shot at the first seed going into the stretch run.

Smart is doing a fine job in place of AB..
Amir looks the same player as last season..

I had a feeling this would come up...Perhaps not the worst contract in the league, but certainly not near the best.

Horford fits best with a ball movement offense, to take advantage of his decision making and passing. He doesn't shoot the 3 as well as I thought he would, but does stretch the floor.

At times the C's turn into an isolation offense, (especially in the 4th quarter) with Horford getting few touches, when that happens he becomes almost invisible. Not being a strong enough rebounder to make an impact.

Not a terrible contract, if he continues to play at this level. Not untouchable IMO.

A lot of it is just simple variance, AB's injury, and our players conserving more energy during the regular season than they did last year.

I find it hard to believe that replacing Jared Sullinger with Al Horford was the one thing that caused our defense to decline.

Great words from a great man

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
He's been fine to me. Sometimes he has bad games where he misses multiple bunnies but his spacing and passing are very solid, and he does a good job helping against dribble penetration when perimeter guys get beat. He sucks guarding outside the key, but his stretch ability is very key to our offensive success.

Remember that he only takes 12 shots a game and 4 of those are 3 point shots.
If he shoots 50% from 2 pt and 30% from three he's averaging 11 points.

He's not with us for his scoring, although he does give us a nice post presence, and his 15ft jumpshot is very, very good too.

We are 2nd in the East and Al Horford has been the biggest reason for this vs last year. IT has played better but Horford has made everyone around him (including IT) a much better player with his versatility.

He will age very well too considering he missed 2 seasons with pectoral issues and doesn't rely on athleticism for his age.
He's averaging 14 points off 12 shots which is good. Think about how many of these shots are from 15 feet or further or out and think about how much time he spends standing on the perimeter away from the basket because of our offense.

Quite frankly he's been very good overall. Without Horford we are fighting for the 6th/7th seed IMO.

14 points, 5 assists, 6.6 rebounds and very good paint protection.
34% from 3 and 50% from 2pfg with a huge chunk of those 2 point shots as long jumpshots.

We can win a championship with Al Horford as our starting center and that's the important thing to remember IMO.

His contract will look completely fine as more giant deals get handed out.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

The one thing I would like them to do is get him more involved early on in games. I feel like he's out of the offensive flow sometimes.

I had high hopes for Al Horford, maybe it's our Dominican connection. I was really expecting a better defensive presence and some consistency offensively. It seems like most of the value out of that contract is going to stem from him being "a Stevens-type big" instead of any actual production coming from him.... you hear it all the time "he passes and spaces the floor tho" I think the organization has falling too in love with playing small and refuses to see that even the Warriors had to go out and get someone like JaVale McGee because of playoff basketball.

Yes, but Rozier is doing an awful job in place of Smart.  Smart hasn't picked up AB's minutes, he's playing roughly the same amount as he did before AB's injury.  Rozier and Brown have picked up his minutes, and while Brown has looked very good in stretches (and much better than  he did early in the year), he and Rozier are still a significant step down from Bradley (or from Smart, if you want to think of it that way)

I think one of the biggest reasons isn't necessarily the loss of AB, but Amir's athletic decline,  He's still a useful player, but he can't chase guys around on the perimeter anymore.  We need a real PF to start next to Al
I'm bitter.

Our interior D imo is the bigger problem then missing one guard(good one for sure)

But where is the extra defensive rebounds and shot block?

On the offensive end where are the offenaive rebounds and putbacks?

Smart shouldnt be the one shouldering this load

The other thing to consider is that as early as next season, this isn't even a max contract anymore.

As of right now, there are only 6 other players in the league making as much or more than Horford, but by the last year of the deal, that number will be at least 16 and he'll still be 33 years old. Just to give you something to compare to, Pau Gasol is 36 this season and made the all star game the previous 2 years.
1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008
