For Thomas’ part, he swears he isn’t pondering the possibilities just yet. “Honestly, I haven’t looked that far, but I know when that time comes it’s definitely going to be a decision that I make that’s best for me and my family,” Thomas told USA TODAY Sports on a recent visit to the NBA A to Z podcast (before the trade deadline). “I love Boston. They changed my career. They’ve given me an opportunity of a lifetime, and I can’t thank them enough. But at the end of the day, as a businessman and as a professional basketball player, I’ve got to keep my options open. “I would love to be in Boston. I would love to bring a championship to Boston, and hopefully one day be a Boston Celtics legend like Danny Ainge said…You know this game is business, and you never know what’s going to happen. So I’ve definitely got to keep my options open.” 17 mins ago – via USA Today Sports

No way I am giving him a max if I'm Danny.
As soon as he loses a step he will be JJ Berea .

Maybe have to move him next year

Not interested in giving IT a max last year, and still not interested in giving him a max this year. That is a lot of money... Now if he keeps up similar numbers from this year, and consistently improves his passing skills. (Which is what is hindering his ability to impact the game besides scoring, since his defense is about as good as its ever going to get.)

The Lakers (have) always been a team I wanted to go to, I mean desperately – before I was on the Celtics,” Thomas said in the A to Z interview. “My Dad, being a Laker fan (growing up in Tacoma, Wash.), I was brainwashed as a kid of being a Laker fan, so that’s all I looked up to. I definitely (wanted to go there), especially in the draft (when) they had four second-round picks. “And when I did work out for the Lakers, they were interested in me and they thought they would pick me – which, they didn’t. And also, when I was a free agent, they were showing interest but that was the year they were waiting on, like, Carmelo (Anthony) and those types of guys to decide if they would come to LA, so I wasn’t like the first option. And then they ended up getting Jeremy Lin, so…” 29 mins ago – via USA Today Sports

IT is not worth max money.
Too big a defensive liability.

He absolutely deserves the max.

This is a lottery team without him.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Hmmm...

Wow I'm from NYC, never been to LA or Beantown but from the way that city attracts players regardless of their success makes me wonder what's so bad about Boston. People keep saying it's the weather but that can't just be it.

If IT isn't worth the max, then idk who is.

We are paying Horford the max, and may end up paying Hayward the max.

Hayward is a better defender but certainly not an elite defender.

Also, are we paying Bradley the max in that case?

Too big a defensive liability.

Not even sure why this is a discussion... if IT is not a max player then I don't know who is. If because he's a defensive liability is the reason then Steph Curry, James Harden, Carmelo Anthony, Dirk Nowitzki (all of whom are destined for the HOF) aren't max players neither.

And a second round exit with him.  I'll take a Lottery pick thank you.

If we don't get into ECF before his contract expires he is not worth the max. Stats without success is not worth max.

Hopefully draft fultz, and re-sign Smart, Sign Hayward . IT and AB could easily be moved. Especially since Jaylen can play guard too

Smart   Fultz
Hayward   Brown
Jae             Brown
Horford.      Yabu
Zicic.          Vet

Plus whatever you get back for IT AB/Crowder

I rather do this than tie big money up with IT and AB

I prefer keeping Smart+IT and shipping Bradley. Like it or not, IT is still one of our better shooters right now (28-30 PPG).

KEEP Crowder. Bargain contract, efficient, one of the better 3 and D players today.

And yes, Fultz and IT can co-exist.

If we sign IT to a max, I just feel like that would impede the progress of players like Smart, Jaylen and Fultz/Ball/Jackson.

IT has the ball in his hand 75% of the game.

Max money to a munchkin( who knows yow long he can keep this up) taking playing time away from high lottery picks wouldn't be the way I choose to go if I'm Danny.

I think that second sentence is the goal of a lot of fans. Why have stars when you can have a 25% shot at a complete unknown who, if everything breaks exactly correctly, might some day become as good as Thomas?
