It would come down to Young, Mickey and Jackson.  I don't see any of them contributing in the playoffs.  I went with Young because he'll be a free agent.  I can't see him re-signing with us even if we make a comparable offer.  He'll go to a team like the Nets or Sixers where he'll have a chance to get more playing time.

TP, precisely.

Ceteris paribus, I'd cut Jackson.  Given his partial guarantee for next season however, Mickey or Young.

I'm not fussy about who the Celtics waive. But I think it will be difficult to get a player because, as I understand it, the guys released have to pass thru waivers, and there are a lot of teams below the Celtics that could claim them. Plus, if the players aren't claimed, they become FAs, and can choose any team. My guess is those guys will want to go with the best teams, or maybe teams that give them the best offer. Lately, it's been about going with the best teams. So, the Celtics' chances of getting a player are not high. And then there's the question of whether Ainge/Stevens want any of those players. They seem to be pretty selective.

Cut all of them.  Who cares.  Go sign Bogut, Jones, and the depressed pot head.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Either Jordan Mickey, James Young or Demetrious Jackson.

To be honest, I'd be happy if we cut one of those names to sign Andrew Bogut.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

It's not the same, as people have also explained. There is next year's salary guaranteed in play (a little bit, but...). And there are weaker positions in our team than others.

James Young been playing a lot lately mainly because of Bradley's injuries. Rozier is somewhat a rotational player

I would like to think it's probably Mickey/Jackson/Zeller

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Mickey
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Can the Celtics use Zeller's salary as part of a sign and trade agreement over the summer? Or, is that sort of thing not in play anymore?

I think they can, but with the new CBA it's only possible AFTER guaranteeing the 8M for next year in Zeller's contract. If I'm wrong, please somebody correct me.

We need to hang on to Jackson in the event we trade Rozier, which I expect to happen. I really really like this kid.

You are wrong and right at the same time.

Contracts signed under the current CBA, like Zeller's, will be treated the exact same way when the new CBA takes effect.  However, a contract like Zeller's signed once the new CBA begins will be treated differently.  So in that way you are wrong.

The way you are technically correct is that Zeller's contract guarantees for next season if he's not released by July 3rd, so by the time the Celtics would be able to make a trade (July 7th is the earliest they could do so), his contract would already be guaranteed.

His contract is still useful for trading on draft night, however. If it did not have the second year, it would no longer be tradable.
