I posted this in another thread, but it feels that Woj has confirmed my point:

Does anyone seriously think that Larry Bird is going to trade Paul George, especially for what DA is willing to offer?

I think more likely than not he stays.  But Bird, like Ainge, is aggressive when it comes to making these sorts of decisions.  The Pacers team, as constructed, isn't working.  Over the summer when it wasn't working he surprised everyone by letting Vogel go and swapping Hill for Teague.  A couple years earlier, he surprised everyone by letting Lance walk away for what seemed like a very team-friendly offer.  He's not afraid to go against the grain.

His Plan A right now is to try to bring in more help for the team this week.  But if he can't, he has to decide whether he'll be able to improve the team this summer.  George has pretty much intimated that he won't stick around after next year if the Pacers don't improve.  The best offers Bird will see for George are probably today and tomorrow.  If Bird doesn't think he can make this current team around George work in time, he won't be afraid to make a trade.

Just make George agree to an extension if he is traded.

For many reasons, you can't just make someone agree to an extension.

A big question on George would be: Can Crowder play PF for substantial minutes? Because we know George has no interest in doing so.

They'll both be out there.  George can be told that he's the PF if that makes him feel better.

I think you'd start the game with Amir in the lineup, essentially having George replace Bradley, and being Smart in for Amir in the end-of-game lineup.  George wouldn't have to play too much at the 4 (nor would Crowder) with Jerebko and Olynyk coming off the bench.  And when he was at the 4, I'd bet the overwhelming majority of the time he'd be guarding another SF type player also in a smaller lineup.

You give up as many picks as you can for Davis. He's a generational talent. Paul George is a very good star.

For a moment I thought you meant Anthony Davis.

Then I saw it was you @SHAQATTACK and was like "oh he means Drummond"

I believe it's the other way around. Dude doesn't want to play PF.

That's why Ainge will also line up a deal to pick up Andrew Bogut. So Al Horford can play PF, PG13 can play SF, and Jae Crowder can come off the bench for PG 13.

This is the master plan!

If we can get George while keeping one of BRK17/BRK18 or Jaylen, you would have to sign me up. He can grow with our core (people forget George is still young himself) and with Zizic or the piece left over, we can blossom into a perennial contender who shuffles our 2nd and 3rd stars around as our other players get better and get older simultaneously. It would be kind of a version like the Spurs have accomplished around Duncan for so long.

He's a Drummond fan, but I realize why would you give up both BKN Picks for Drummond
