Marc Stein said this on Lowe's podcast today:

An executive told me that Boston is going to get Paul George this week.

Unless that executive was Larry Bird I don't believe it

Best analysis so far.

George has always been my pipe dream but I just don't see it happening.

When PG13 was asked who he was most excited to see, he said "Isaiah".

Yeah it's a pipe dream, but going in the right direction for this summer's trade talks!

I wonder if we could flip Rozier and the 2019 LAC 1st to suck Philly into this deal, they supply Okafor to essentially replace Brown needing to be included. The deal turns into:

Boston receives: George, Ellis

Philly receives: Rozier, 2019 LAC 1st

Indy receives: Johnson, Bradley, Zeller, Okafor, the rights to Nader, 2017 BKN 1st (top 1 protected), 2018 BOS 1st, 2019 MEM 1st, 2017 MIN 2nd, 2017 LAC 2nd, 2019 DET 2nd

I know that's a lot to give up, but I'd be willing to cash out for George. Indy gets a prospect in Okafor, the 2017 BKN pick, a starter in Bradley, and sheds the Ellis contract. Oh and a D-League All-Star..! Not to mention they load up big with 6 picks over 3 years to jump start their rebuild.

Roster looks like:

Thomas/Smart/Jackson
George/Ellis/Green
Crowder/Brown/Young
Horford/Jerebko
Olynyk/Mickey

That's a lot, but I would consider it. Love me some George.

Philly would never do it.   This is a prime example of the magical thinking that permeates on most trade threads.

I listened to the pod, and Stein was far from endorsing the claim. The comment seemed more meant to illustrate the wide range of beliefs among those "in the know."
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Indy would never do it either.  They aren't going to give up George for Avery Bradley plus a bunch of really good players if the BKN17 pick is "Top 1 protected".  That isn't going to fly.

I think this deal for George could go down and here is why.

If Bird flips a #1 for Okafor. He can then turn around and get 17 & 18 #1s and Brown for George.

Now look at his lineup
Teague
Fultz
Brown
Okafor
Turner

Then draft another young player in 2018. That is a quick rebuild

This title is very misleading.

The context behind the story was Lowe saying you can find anyone to back up any rumor you want, and used Paul George as an example. Lowe is not saying "there's a legit rumor that Cs could be getting George" instead he's saying "most likely nothing will happen, a lot of what you read is flimsy rumors bc it is so easy to get someone to say something that backs up whatever you want".

So, don't everyone hold their breath for George.

C's aren't giving up brk 17+18, nevermind brown. C's have all the leverage here. We have max cap space and best odds to win the lottery.

Bird has to build a contender around George, but doesn't have the assets to do that before George can opt out.

Plus he said the other day , or it was reported he think he can build around Myles Turner

The offer is Amir, Jae, brk 17 , clips pick, 2nd rd picks

Take it or leave it, talk to us around the draft, we could absorb Georges contract with our max space and get to keep Crowder while giving up just picks.

I understand Bird's hesitancy. George should end up being homegrown talent that they have been looking for. He would help the Pacers out for a while, but he seems like the guy who just really wants to win.

George is a stud. I think at this point, both of them are waiting till how the season ends, and decide from there.

If George does get traded, it's probably in the off-season/draft.

Coming off his horrific injury, and even be putting up the numbers. Yes, it's a down year. But he's adapted extremely well to being able to take better shots, and has worked on his shot a lot. He would also average more assists with a more potent offense. Teague just hasn't meshed well.

But like usual....

This rumor is probably fake.

Don't dig too deep into it. Lol.

Both Brooklyn picks, Memphis 2019, future Boston first, Avery Bradley, Rozier and Amir for George and Turner!

It/Smart
George/Brown
Crowder/Green
Horford/Jerebko
Turner/KO

Mega pipe dream.... (or wet dream)

The part about protecting the 2017 pick make no sense.  So if it's the top pick then they get nothing in it's place?

Anyway, I would be surprised if we can put any protections on it at all (since we don't actually own it).  More than likely we'd have to trade our pick or not, and then they could use it to swap with brooklyn.

Either, both of the brooklyn picks plus bradley seems too steep for me.  One brooklyn pick plus bradley seems fine.
