To lead a team to a title?  Cousins seriously needs medication.  He's that bad.  So I'm not blaming the team for passing on him regardless of price.

So many answers I could put here that end bad.  Especially the one that belongs in the "other" board.

Shaq was an idiot.

Kobe was a huge jerk.

Rasheed was a headcase.

Rondo was hated by his teammates.

Bird got in bar fights and wasn't close with a lot of his teammates.

Scotty Pippen showed up his coach

Draymond Green is a punk

Lebron is an egomaniac

Dennis Rodman was nuts

Kevin Garnett bullied and fought teammates

Guys with flawed personalities win all the time.

Sorry, all of those guys actively made their teams better. Maybe they were not the #1 option, but the sacrificed something somewhere. They didn't pout into another 30 win season, they put the team on their back (more often for the better) and made improvements.

Being great and a headcase does not equal championships. It's a lot more complicated than that.

If he was as great as we're all saying he was, how was that the best return they could get? If you're putting him on the list with all those guys above, do you think they would net such a small return if they were traded in their prime?
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Cousins made his team better, too. That's pretty much indisputable.  Very few guys in NBA history can lead bad rosters into the playoffs. Duncan, Bird, Lebron. A lot (but not all) of the first ballot HOF guys.

In 2096 and 2007, KG, Pierce and Ray all finished in the lottery, and none had ever made the Finals. Do they deserve blame for needing HOF help to win? If they were so good, why they struggle to win 35 games before teaming up?

Um, none of those examples fit the description.  Led, as in, 1 or 1a.  Idiot, as in, certifiable fool that cannot control his emotions or be a leader of men.  Not even going waste my time on people like Lebron, Shaq, and Bird, and others.  If you can't tell the the difference between those guys and cousins, I'm not even sure what the say.

The single closest comp on that list is Sheed, followed closely by Green.  Of course, neither was the best on their team.

They had bad years where two of the three were injured half the year and it was more coincidence that it all happened the same year. Otherwise DA wouldn't have been so lucky. Same with the Heat. Sometimes the stars just align.

KG was the MVP three years before and more or less took his team to the WCF on his own and made multiple (first round) playoff appearances.  Pierce did the same in the East in 2002 but without the MVP. Also multiple playoff appearances. Ray Allen WCF in 2001. Not as good teams as KG and Pierce but still took two different teams to the playoffs.

How are they similar again?

The paltry haul that the Kings received in return for Cousins says it all; evidently, there wasn't a clamor for DMC among NBA GMs, and it's not hard to understand why.  It puts all the silly mooted trade packages of a Brooklyn pick plus half our roster which were prevalent here in proper perspective.

Exactly.

Some folks have also made much of the fact that Cousins has "failed" to lead his team to a title. I guess that means these same people wouldn't have wanted Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, or Patrick Ewing?
