I am a firm believer or that the Celtics should trade this 2017 Brooklyn pick for a veteran. Drafting more youngsters as projects is something that we need at this juncture. The rebuild is over. Boston is built to win now.

Ifthis draft is really as appealing as people are saying it is then what could the Celtics get in return for a trade for it let's say A top 3 pick?

Some names come to mind..
Rodney Hood
Jimmy Butler (really wouldn't be willing to give up more than just the pick for him)
DeMarcus Cousins (would need a lot more)
Andrew Wiggins
Jabari Parker (pipe dream)
Julius Randle

To me Butler is the only one I want that's realistically available and worth the top pick (and then some) on that list.  Cousins isn't going anywhere and the others aren't worth the top pick to me  Although Parker is close but not available.

The top pick is worth a heck of a lot more than Hood and Randle.  I wouldn''t trade it for Wiggins or Parker either.

I was gonna say that.

I don't think Wiggins or Parker are available.  Both Wolves and Bucks have nice young cores that are growing together.

Unless it's a top 20 player, the answer to this question is: "Not enough."

So basically, we're talking Jimmy Butler, Demarcus Cousins, and Paul George.

If one of those guys is available, the pick ought to be on the table.  Otherwise, no dice.

Exactly.  Look at the times the #1 pick was traded before playing a game.  It doesn't happen often but the haul is generally epic (just ignore that Brad Daugherty one).

Before playing a game #1 pick Wiggins and recent #1 pick Bennett and a future pick (Luwawu-Cabarrot) were traded for Kevin Love.

On draft night, #1 Chris Webber was traded for #3 Anfernee Hardaway and three future unprotected 1st round picks (which ended up being 11, 13, and 5).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Looks like Celtics-Bulls will talk again about Butler.

You're probably looking at Crowder plus a Nets pick.

Of course the price it lists makes it a no go.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Jimmy Butler is about the 'least' that I'd take for a top 3 pick.
I'd also trade a top 3 pick for DeMarcus Cousins.
I'd give up the #1 for Anthony Davis, James Harden, Blake Griffin or Russell Westbrook.

So what would give us the best shot at a championship...

Keep the 2017 Nets pick and draft Fultz, and trading for Carmelo....
or trade it for Jimmy Butler and lose the Brooklyn pick...?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Agreed, although the proposed deal makes no sense salary wise anyway - Butler is on about $17M this season, and Smart/Crowder combined only make about $9M.

Would probably need Jerebko thrown in there as well to match salaries.

I would do Crowder, Smart, Jerebko and one of the Nets picks.

This year's has a higher chance of being top 5 but the draft is fulled with Point Guards - which we don't need.   Next year's draft probably is more likely to get us a player we'd have a use for, but then we increase the risk of Brooklyn improving a bit and the pick being worse.

Overall they have equal value to me, so I don't really care which we give.

I would give up #1 pick for any one of the guys you just listed I think.

So depressing that we finally have a shot at a #1 pick, and everybody in the top 5 or 6 of the draft is a [dang] PG...just as our starting PG emerges as an All-Star and the league's second leading scorer.

Typical Celtics luck lol

I would have said Butler in a heartbeat but with this recent bulls drama I have started drifting away from Butler. Reports are saying Crowder and Smart + Nets pick for Butler, Smart is coming on as of late and Jae is looking like his pre-ankle injury self. That Nets pick is so juicy, if it lands 1 and the Celtics trade for Butler I can see a lot of regret in a few years..

Unpopular Opinion Alert...

Trading for Melo or Ibaka is where my head is at... Keep Nets pick and possibly keep both Crowder and Smart is quite nice. You keep your future (Net pick(s)) and can play for today. How many teams can say that? Will they punt cap space? Yep, but Blake has said he's staying, Hayward most likely will since Utah is playing great.

Did you really just suggest trading a surefire top 4 pick for Rodney Hood :O
