Just playing devil's advocate but Jovic's second year stats aren't much better than those of Jarred Sullinger.

Convince me that he's worth giving up the #1 overall pick when this year's draft could land us the next CP3, Westbrook, Rose, or Irving.

Agreed. Jokic is probably a great player but you've got more chances to get a superstar by the draft. If you keep long term in mind, you keep the pick. Pretty much.

If I had Jokic on my team already I would not trade him for the #1 pick in this draft.

Denver won't either.

Here we go again with people salivating over other teams center and underrate our assets.

We're not sending our #1 pick for a stat stuffer on bad team. I remember guys willing to trade KG and our lottery picks for guys like Andray Blatche and Kris Middleton.

If we're to get Jokic, its not for the #1 pick. It's for a legit MVP candidate or established All-Star. Wake up, people.

Danny would have nabbed him long ago before even his stock rose.

Denver holds the 8th spot in the West right now. They're not as bad as people think.

they would be 12th in the East though.  The West is 7 teams deep and then a bunch of crap.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Yeah I'd swap the #1 pick for Jokic. He's *already* a star, at age 21. There's a possibility that he would be the best player on our team upon arrival.

Jokic is averaging more than twice as many assists as Sully did in his second season and shooting .591 from the floor compared to Sully's .427. He's also a year younger than Sully was.

So there are statistical differences, to say nothing for the eye test.

Also remember Sullinger was supposed to be a Top 5 pick.  Here's DraftExpress's mock draft history for Sullinger:  you can see he had been considered Top 5 for 2 straight years.  Then people got concerned about his back and conditioning.

I think 2nd year Sullinger was looking like the Top 5 pick he was supposed to be.

So it's not just, oh look Jokic's points/rebounds are comparable to that bum Sullinger.  That was "should have been a top 5 pick" Sullinger we saw for a lot of his 1st and 2nd year.

But it's also unfair to compare a full season of Sully to 36 games for Jokic.  With the way he's been playing lately, 19/9/5 since winning the starting spot in mid-December when Denver stopped trying to play both Jokic and Nuric together,  23/11/5 so far through January,  I like to think there's going to more separation between their basic stats as Jokic plays another 40 games.

And of course as Big333223 mentioned, his shooting and passing are pretty amazing.  Top 10 in the league in TS%, #2 in the league for players with a Usage of 20% or greater.  #4 in apg at the Center spot, in only 25mpg so far (again, I expect this to grow as the season goes on).

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Jokic just dropper 35 pts and 12 boards against the Spurs. I don't think Denver will even hear offers after his recent acheviements. They have a solid core to build on if you ask me.

Quetzalcoatl is right. Jokic is what you hope to get with a number 1 pick.

Btw, I see here (and not only) comments paying what is to my mind excessive attention to 'value'.

This is not a video game or a fantasy league where a player has a definitive value no matter where he plays.

Players take time to develop and they fit in more in some teams than others. Even if the BRK17 had more 'value' than Jokic (assuming we can measure the value of a player/asset in a objective and precise manner) keeping the player might still be the rational choice.

Jokic's January: 25 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block, 1 steal, 62% from the field, 44% from three, and 85% from the line.

Looking back at this and it's funny how many were dismissive of Jokic being worth the Nets pick. After many people opined without watching him play, how many of those opinions still remain the same?
