17 rebounds in only 28 minutes last night!

Hoping he's available for the 2nd round pick...#35 currently.

Found a nice article on him that came out today.

Draft Express currently has him going at 26 to the Nets. Hey, cool, we have their draft pick this year!

Growing up in Big Ten territory and seeing tons of games, he's similar to Sullinger.  Big bodied, undersized for a big in the NBA, very good production, not a leaper and  has had weight issues.

I'm pretty excited for Swanigan at this point too, although I think he's played himself up from the second round to the late 1st, unfortunately.  The comparison for Sullinger is obvious, although I'm going to guess that Caleb will weigh about 20 pounds less than Sully at the combine.  He's definitely put a ton of work into his physical fitness the last several years, which I think will cause a divergence between their two career arcs.

Also, he has more range on his shot than Sully.  He's a legit 3-point threat from college range, shooting 47% on a couple attempts a game this season. Sully went 40% from deep his sophomore year, but only took half as many 3s -- 3-point shooting is definitely in Swanigan's skillset more than Sullinger.

Let's see -- a thick PF who's an elite defensive rebounder, can shoot from 3, and is a decent passer?  If he slides out of the first round, I really hope Ainge figures out a way to snag him.

We'd be lucky if he gets past the 1st round and be available.

A dude who can shoot, big, mobile and can eat up the boards would be too good to pass for a lot of teams.

Congrats to my favorite non-lottery binkie!!

Caleb Swanigan Named First-Team All-American by USAToday, NBC!!

"He’s the centerpiece of Purdue’s offense, the guy that the ball runs through on every possession, and he’s able to do it despite the myriad of double-teams that he faces. He’s put up numbers this season that rival that of Tim Duncan, which tells you all you need to know."

I see the numbers but I just don't have faith in him as a NBA player. Usually guys with weight issues never hold up. Too many burns by the Davis and Sully types. Pass

This sheds some light on the "weight issues" that you mention:

"Born into a poor family, Swanigan was constantly fed low-cost, low-quality food as a child. He gorged himself on pizza, fast food and ice cream. If they were available, he would consume an entire box of cereal and an entire gallon of milk for breakfast. "It's a lot more expensive to eat healthy than it is to eat unhealthy," Swanigan told ESPN."

He has been losing weight since he was 13 years old...when he weighed almost 400 pounds!

So he has been working on and changing his body for roughly 6 years.  I am comfortable saying that he is winning the battle...unlike Sully.

I was just listening to Daryl Morey on the Lowe Post talking about this. The conventional wisdom is, basically, what you're saying. If there's a guy who is a little too slight, you can bulk him up. But Morey argues the opposite, citing Marc Gasol and Lowe backs him up using Jokic as another example of a player who was overweight but got himself into good shape.

If Swanigan drops to that Minnesota 2nd Rounder we have, he'd definitely be worth a look but I think it also depends on how much confidence the front office has in Yabusele. At that stage of the draft, they can probably shop around a bit.

Tonight is going to be his last game as Kansas is the overwhelming favorite.

As a BIG Caleb fan...I just want to applaud him for what he's accomplished against all odds.

At one time he was 360 lbs and homeless and now he's having a great season (18+pts, 12+rebs, 40+%3pt and a 2nd team Academic All-American)  and he will be a first round pick.

Way to go young man...no matter what happens tonight...you are a winner.

Kansas is a great team, but has little depth upfront.  If Lucas gets in foul trouble, Swanigan and Haas could dominate inside.  Don't write Purdue off yet.

I know I'm not. I picked Purdue to beat Kansas in my bracket (before losing to Michigan).

Of course, I beg you not to look at any of the other regionals in my bracket.  Oooof.

Thanks guys for trying to cheer me up...but Kansas is too good.

It was a nice run for Caleb though.
