"Purdue’s Caleb Swanigan is the best big man in college basketball by a significant margin..."

"...the 6-foot-9, 250-pound sophomore is averaging 18.3 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, benchmarks no player in college basketball has hit over a full season since Tim Duncan in 1996–97."

And don't forget 40+% 3p.

How is his defense? Is he quick enough to defend PF or is he an undersized C?

His offensive game is impressive.

Currenlty 52 on DraftExpress and 45 on NBA Draft.net

From the Ringer piece:

It’s clear that there are doubts about Swanigan’s ability to succeed at the next level, even if I’m not much for projecting NBA potential. He isn’t the greatest athlete, his defense needs serious work, and he doesn’t fit the mold for any position in the league.

He's a little undersized (DraftExpress lists him as 6'7.5" w/o shoes) but has great length (around 7'4") and seems to have an incredible strong frame. Seems like an Ainge guy. I wouldn't be mad if the Celtics nabbed him with the #35 pick or something like that.

Just okay. Zach Randolph type of finisher. No explosion or jumping ability. Needs to out muscle guys and use his length.

I think Mickey looked better in college, and look how that's turned out so far.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Except that if Kenneth Faried could shoot 3's he'd be much more valuable. If that is, indeed, what this kid turned out to be (Faried with a 3 pointer) he'd be well worth a high second rounder, no question.

I find it amusing that the two "amazing rebounds" the Ringer article shows are of Swanigan hustling to grab the rebound....away from one of his smaller teammates.

I have been a fan of Swanigan since last season when the presence of Hammons over shadowed and stiffed his ability. The Cs worked him out predraft last offseason and I was hoping he would declare. There is no such thing as a cant miss prospect but his skill set, size and length are perfect for the Cs and many other teams.

Against Michigan State last night...25 points and 17 REBOUNDS!!
He's now averaging 18.8pts and 12.7rebs a game.

All of that while the crowd was screaming TRAITOR! at him.  (He decommitted from MSU and went to Purdue so that he could his preferred conditions for him to continue to reshape his body.)

Additionally, he was 6-6 from the line and 3-4 from deep.
He's now 78.9% from the stripe and 50% from 3 point land (on 42 attempts).

This kid can play.

Sounds like a Kenneth Faried type.

Not at all.   Faried is a hustle rebounder who uses his elite motor and athleticism to rebound, Caleb is a Sully type rebounder. He does a great job boxing out holding off his man and using his length to secure boards. Offensively I would also project Swanigan as a Sully like player. He is a capable passer and shooter who despite his size look comfortable moving himself and the ball outside the paint. Watching him play it is very easy to see how his skills fit with what the Cs currently run on offense.

He's already a better shooter than Sully, and seems committed to conditioning in a way Sully couldn't manage.  Did have 7 turnovers last night, so that's something to watch, but at the NBA level he won't be a focal point like he is at Purdue.
