Trade idea

To Heat: Crowder, AB, Young, Rozier,  Zeller, Amir, 2017 1st
To Celts: Dragic, Whiteside, McGruder, Richardson, Babbitt, 2017 heat 2nd round pick

Celts lineup

Whiteside
Horford
Brown
Smart
IT4

KO
Jerebko
Green
Dragic
Jackson

Yay or nay? Chances vs cavs/warriors/spurs?

Not sure I care anything about Dragic.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Dragic is a very good player.  Dragic and IT4 together on the floor on the offensive end would be a nightmare

I'm not giving up a Brooklyn pick, AB, and Crowder for Dragic and Whiteside.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The 2017 is swap rights for the Nets pick.  So
AB=>Dragic
Nets 2017, Crowder, AJ >>Whiteside

That's a big no

Is the post trade lineup better?

AB >Dragic is subjective

Dragic is a better offensive player

Holy horse feathers
Crowder, AB, Rosier AND the nets '17 pick for a flawed big and a point who would need to play
behind IT?

That's steep.

Also a rook learning the game starting at the 3?

I think that trade makes us worse, not contenders.

different, not sure better.  I mean I can't see Boston doing much with Brown as the starting SF and no credible back-up on the team.  No way Dragic comes off the bench, but Smart would also want to start causing a potential rift.  Whiteside is obviously a big improvement in the position next to Horford, but I'm just not sure it is enough.  Couple that with giving up a Brooklyn pick and it is a terrible trade for Boston.

I cant see dragic being a complainer... Likely he would end up finishing the game anyways with Smart playing stretch 3

Whiteside is big because not only will he grab all the rebounds but also provide the rim protection for a smaller lineup

If CBS subs the right way, one of whiteside and horford will be on the floor at all times. Same for one of IT4 and Dragic

You know this has already been done before, right?  It didn't work out too well.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I think that trade guts our depth and I think AB is theater two way player. Whitened next to AL would be very interesting.

Dragic is a starter-quality PG who chafed having to share / defer minutes with Bledsoe and Thomas when the three were at Phoenix.  He made it very clear he wasn't happy there.  There are some indications he and Thomas have a bit of edginess to their relationship stemming from that situation.

He's not likely to be thrilled to be put on the bench.

It's very debatable whether replacing Amir with Whiteside helps you out as much as replacing Crowder & AB with Brown & Smart hurts you, at least in the near term.   It might work better in the long run, but it's pretty risky gamble at your 2 & 3 for what you are getting at the 5.

The outside shooting would take a huge nose-dive.  Amir, Jae & Avery are collectively shooting lights-out from beyond the arc this year.   Whiteside, Brown and Smart ... are not.

Even if the whole nets out as 'better', I just don't see the result as being at 'another level'.  It looks more different than better.

I'll pass, thanks.
