I was listening to the Starters the other day and they had a game I thought would be fun to play on here.

Can you name the greatest player in NBA history to have achieved nothing personally. This essentially means no MVP's, All-Star appearances, no All-NBA, no rookie teams ect. The only thing that could be included could be something like a slam dunk or skills champion as they are essentially a nothing award.

Who you got? It ain't easy!

I was gonna say Robert Horry since he has played in the most playoff games of any player ever, and all I can see is that he made 2nd team All-Rookie.  Never anything else individually.  If that 2nd team rules him out I will have to think about it.

It's not that they "did" nothing, it's that they won nothing. Here's a few:

Jalen Rose (most improved award is a nothing award)
Arvydas Sabonis
Rod Strickland
Cedric Cornbread Maxwell (Finals MVP may disqualify him)
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I'd say out of current players JJ Redick is a frontrunner

Does winning 7 rings count as nothing?
(it's funny to write that down :)
Or are we looking just for individual awards?

It's just covering individual awards, so anything team related still counts.

Sabonis was the a top 3 center in the world in the 80s, having won Olympic, World and Euro gold by his 25th B-day.
Rod was 3rd team all-NBA and 1st rookie team

This will require some research, but off the top of my head:  Artis Gilmore.

Lamar Odom comes close, but he made All-Rookie (to me, a minor award) and 6MOY (a bigger one). He never made an All-Star team, though.

I was always surprised Mike Bibby never made an All-Star team, as important as he was to those really good Kings teams.

Mike Bibby -- probably a rookie team but I don't think he had any other awards.

Stephen Jackson

Career = 15ppg, 4rpg, 3apg
Peak = 20ppg, 5rpg, 6apg

Jacks did win a title as a starter with San Antonio though.

Monta Ellis is a good one

Career: 18ppg, 5apg, 3.5rpg, 2spg
Peak: 25ppg, 5apg, 4rpg, 1.7spg

Less team success & playoff success than Stephen Jackson. No title. Generally on mid-level to sub-par teams throughout his career. Only one season past the 1st round of the playoffs (8ppg, 21mpg).
