Last year we know he signed a 5 year 95m contract with the following breakdown for the next 4 seasons:

YEAR       AGE   STATUS   BASE SALARY   SIGNING BONUS   CAP HIT   DEAD CAP
2015-16   Contract details by year   25      $15,257,500   $1,150,000   $16,407,500   $92,339,878
2016-17   Contract details by year   26      $16,402,209   $1,150,000   $17,552,209   $75,932,378
2017-18   Contract details by year   27      $17,546,918   $1,150,000   $18,696,918   $58,380,169
2018-19   Contract details by year   28      $18,691,624   $1,150,000   $19,841,624   $39,683,251
2019-20   Contract details by year   29      $19,841,627   $19,841,627   $19,841,627

My question is in the rising salary cap, isn't his deal a bargain and doesn't this make him even more attractive? I'm not sure how this works but one would think because his annual average salary is south of $20m this makes it easier on cap flexibility and management given one of your max is under 20m.

Am I missing something?

The final year is a player option, which he's sure to decline to hit free agency.  Yes, it does make him a more valuable acquisition, which is why it will cost more to acquire him.  It's also why Crowder's contract is ridiculous, and trading him away for someone who will make three times as much (Butler) or over 4 times as much (Hayward) would be foolish.

Good to know. This makes me want to acquire him more than I did before. You've got to anticipate Bradley demanding max dollars come his free agency.

Regarding Jae, I love him for all the same reasons everybody does. Defense, toughness and developing scorer and outside shooter on a super light contract. But he is a role player on a true contender. There is nothing wrong with that.

But this only makes it that much more important to utilize Crowder/Thomas/Bradley cost controlled status to our benefit now while we have it.

Danny needs to make big trade now...give us 1 and 1/2 seasons to try with all parties and then make difficult decision on who to let go after next season.
