Poll

Would you trade Amir, Zeller, Rozier, and the 2018 pick for Rozier?

Yes
No way
I'd do a different trade without a Brooklyn pick

Why are they trading their youngest best player?

Because it's a holiday week and there's no Celtics game tonight, so we have to talk about something.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Nah, the guy just doesn't have enough heart or desire.
He's a poor man's Dwight Howard.

He's missing something mentally. Shame because he's a beast of a physical specimen.

Read that last line again. One more time.

I'd actually be interested in Dragic if he was available for a reasonable price to flip him to Kings. Say

Heat get Rozier, Zeller, KO, C's 2018, and Kings future 1st.

Kings get Dragic and Jerekbo.

C's get Gay and Koufos.

The C's
Starters=IT, AB, Crowder, Gay, Horford
Bench=Smart, Green, Brown, AJ, Koufos
Reserves=DJ, Young, Mickey

Whiteside seems like the type of guy you get *after* you get the franchise guy.

On the cheap. Because he's disgruntled and wants to win. And is willing to be the #3-4 guy on a championship team.

I don't think Whiteside checks too many of those boxes.

We could have had him in the summer if interested. I'm not giving up assets for him

Nope.  He was always going to re-sign in Miami.

I voted no, but also believe the OP mis-labeled the Poll Header:

I'm not sure CBS or DA are interested in a center with his style of play.

I think they'd be more interested in a center that comes here on a reasonable contract, that won't complain playing 22-25 minutes a game. Whiteside has a mega contract, it would be a waste to play him short minutes. And frankly he wouldn't like it either.

DA likes going small and stretching the floor. IMO he looking for either a star center that can stretch the floor, or a center that he acquires reasonably, so he can play him shorter minutes, and continue to play small in what he and Stevens see as their best chance to win.

It doesn't make sense for the C's to trade for a center like that. $22 million for 18 mins a game on a team that prefers to play small to begin with doesn't sound like a wise investment.

I agree the C's need amother big. They need to go after a Bogut type player that won't cost and arm and a leg at center.

If that's the price for Whiteside... Then why not just add another young player (like Brown) and the 2017 Brooklyn Pick and make this offer for Cousins? (Remove Zeller to match salaries)

I know Cousins is likely untouchable but I also fail to see why Whiteside would be made available by Miami now.. and between the two I'd much rather take my chances with Cousins

I don't get this notion that Whiteside would only play 20 mpg on Boston.  That makes no sense.  He is playing 34 mpg in Miami averaging 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game.  His competition for minutes in Boston would be whoever was left of Johnson, Olynyk, Jerekbo, and Zeller.  Whiteside would be playing similar minutes in Boston as he does now in Miami.  No doubt in my mind about that.

Cousins is clearly the superior talent. He's elite on offense and at least well above average defensively when he wants to be - which tells me he can be a #1 guy on a contender built the right way. I don't think there are 5 better talents in the league.

Whiteside is a very, very good role player, so it really depends on whether you can utilize him. He's arguably the best rebounding/shotblocking combo in the league, can get you 15+ points on high percentage shots, but also completely lacking in "modern" big man skills of passing and spreading the floor. In a way, he's like Rondo was, able to put up monster stats but also with some negative systemic effects. If you want to win a title with Whiteside, I think you *must* figure out how to run an efficient offense around him, supported by teammates who buy into what he brings.

With either guy, though, the question is whether you can go "all-in". Take either one as your only move, and you could be stuck, or starting over in a couple years.

So to me the question is, can you get one of these guys AND another big piece with some combination of BKN '17, BKN '18, MEM '19, Jaylen Brown, Smart, Rozier, Crowder (if we're bring back a scoring wing), KO, Zizic, Yabusele, etc

It's a lot to ask, but there are scenarios that work on paper.

For example:
Cousins, [Casspi] <=> BKN '16 + Jaylen Brown + MEM '19 + [Amir Johnson, Zeller]
Butler <=> Crowder + BKN '17 + BOS '18 + [KO, Jerebko]

Farrrr fetched, but something down that road makes us a contender overnight. Would use about $15M of our cap room for next year to have both guys instead of Zeller, Brown and Crowder.

Smart/ Bradley/ Butler/ Horford/ Cousins
=> Rozier, Zizic, Yabusele, D Jax, Mickey, vets

Maybe a trade based around Jaylen Brown for Whiteside rather than a Brooklyn pick.

They have Winslow.  What need would they have of Brown?

Whiteside can't get 20 mpg, he's never scored more than 10 points or shot better than 50% from the field. Plus at 6'8", he's really undersized. Pass.
