I've never really been diagnosed 100%, but as a person studying psychology and neurological aspects of the human brain, I've noticed that I've always been wired differently. Which is interesting to me, because my brother who looks very similar to me, has a boatload of mental disorders ranging from schizophrenia, to multiple borderline personality disorders. Which also led me to question if it was my mother or father that birthed my genetics? I do know BPD is hereditary, or certain traits can be brought along genetically.

Last week, I contemplated suicide, overdosing on ****, and going to sleep peacefully.

I've been doing plenty of research, and literally every symptoms that BPD matches up well with me.

From what I've gathered on most websites, there really isn't a cure. I feel lost.

My mental state ranges from 0 to 100. Sometimes, I feel like I never have control over myself. I get angry easily, and there are times where I'll explode out in rage. My life has been a constant whirlwind. Just going to say, I'm not making this post or thread to gain your sympathy.

But I want to know if anyone has anyone in their family or friends who suffer from this, and what measures they took for their issues?

The first thing is that you need to seek help from a mental health professional, not an anonymous message board.  Something like this is a condition to be managed, not something to be cured, just like diabetes.

I checked with my spouse who is trained as a clinical psychologist. Do exactly as loosecannon recommends. Race to a mental professional as soon as you can.

Good luck to you.

Borderline personality disorder is not the easiest diagnosis to make and it's a really good idea not to self-diagnose.  Also, if you are contemplating taking your life PLEASE , PLEASE seek professional help.    Bipolar amd other mood-disorders can also result in symptoms you mentioned.  Please hear that the desire to end your life is irrational -- you absolutely CAN feel better -- please resist the temptation to self-diagnose and self-medicate. Seek help to understand and treat the problem.  One thing about severe mental health issues is that your thoughts can get out of control and can lead you to very incorrect conclusions.  If you know something is wrong - which you do - seek help.  Also contact a friend, relative, police, hotline - whoever before acting to end your life.  Dont go through this alone - the more you share your thoughts, the more connected you'll be.  We can't treat your illness through the blog, but your fellow cbloggers definitely care about you and care about what you do.

No family members but I have come into close contact with this for a while. The last two posters here are 100% correct in your need to seek professional help. To the best of my understanding this is a somewhat evolving science so hopefully our understanding of this and your understanding and society's understanding of it will improve over time and hopefully treatments will as well. I wouldn't self diagnose if I were you. Go get help. A sports board is not the place to get that help.

I don't have any medical knowledge of my own to share, but I just want to re-emphasize what everyone else has said. Please seek professional help immediately. This kind of stuff is not something you want to try to self-diagnose and try to manage on your own.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to say this. Although none of us really know each other personally, and may disagree on a lot of issues ranging from basketball to politics, I really love that we are kinda like a big family here. From the Desert Dweller post earlier today, and now your post, as well as the many other posts I've read on here, I really love how supportive we are of each other and our fellow members. So, yeah, that's kinda what I wanted to say.

But please, Monkhouse, look to a professional for this. It's not something to try to manage on your own.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

Please do seek professional help for your own well-being, Monkhouse. Inpatient hospitalization can be very helpful in "stabilizing" oneself prior to outpatient treatment.  There is a great outpatient, evidence-based treatment for BPD (i.e., Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT) and quite a few centers/groups providing it throughout the US now.  It has been shown to be effective for a host of disorders but actually created by a well-renowned psychologist with BPD (Marsha Linehan) and specifically tailored to the diagnosis.

Two other things: a) There is an unnecessary stigma associated with personality disorders, but realistically, they are largely overlapping and won't even be classified in the same way in the next edition of the DSM, and b) Prognoses are not all "doom and gloom" as some make them out to be, particularly BPD, on the internet.  It is very treatable with commitment to a combination of individual and group therapy. In fact, a majority of individuals see a natural reduction in their symptoms ~ 40 years of age.

Please know I am available to discuss via PM as a fellow CBer (e.g., locate treatment centers in your area, share resources, etc) that very much appreciates your contributions to the blog. Very sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time.  Keep your head up, take care of yourself, and know that it is often misunderstood and treatable as any other issue.

But I want to know if anyone has anyone in their family or friends who suffer from this, and what measures they took for their issues?

Absolutely, not as uncommon as one would think and frequently misdiagnosed as "bipolar disorder," also shares symptoms with "complex PTSD." Please take the above into consideration, I genuinely believe it can help -- I am familiar with BPD and treatment truly does work with consistent effort and appropriate support.  And kudos to you for reaching out, I imagine that took courage.  All the best, Monkhouse.

I have generalized anxiety disorder and have experienced a few bouts of severe depression over the last 15+ years, and my experience has taught me that professional help is crucial in any mental health battle. You can beat this, but you need help to do so. Please get that help!

Sorry to hear about this.   Iam no doc but can I ask how long you felt this "unstability'? What age range are you in?

For me I was dealing with some chronic stress/adrenal fatigue a few months ago. And it was not pretty... even riding on the subway caused stress......I developed anxiety, felt depressed(vicious cycle)... The underlying reason was due to stress/lack of sleep

After regular checkups and such, all the doctors said was that my blood pressure was fine, no major issues. Referred to an anxiety/mood specialist and all he did was prescribe me anti anxiety pills (bandaid of a fix).... Not until I saw a naturalpath , we finally got the root of the issue.... And the winter blues didnt help with the stress.... I just had to change my lifestyle, diet(cut alcohol, coffee etc), exercise (lightly) and take supplements/herbs (vitamin d, magnesium, american ginseng) to finally lead me onto the road of recovery....

My point is  , dont just believe one or two professional opinions. See alternative medicine specialist as well...  Take a moment to reflect on your lifestyle, diet, stress... Are you getting enough sun? It could be due to a physical/deficiency .
I wish you the best of luck for your recovery.

I am sorry to hear about your struggles with mental illness. If you are having suicidal thoughts and feeling an impulse to act on them, please talk to somebody right away.  There are people who can help you.

As others have said, seek help.  As much help as you can find.  Listen to what the professionals give you in terms of advice.  Nobody on these forums is going to give you advice commensurate with what a professional, who has access to your medical records and can actually observe you and speak with you in person, can give you.

I won't presume to tell you anything more than that, since I have no idea what your personal challenges are.  I'll just say that I'm sorry that you have to deal with this.  I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to live with.  I wish you all the best in finding somebody who understands BPD and can give you useful help and advice.

TP for asking for help.

I agree with everybody that says get professional help.

My impression from your question is that you are wondering if there anything that you can do for yourself.

I would suggest a positive addiction. A 200km bicycle ride will usually take the edge off of me.

When I was playing HS football, I suffered a series of TBI's that severely altered my mood, and my general state of wellness. Suddenly, I felt a hidden anger I never felt before. I woke up every day with a very "cloudy" brain, and struggled to sleep on a regular basis. I spent over 2 years dealing with major post-concussion issues, and although it's not exactly the same thing, I want you to know that they're are people out there who can help, and seeking out that help is neccesary to do what's really best for you, Monkhouse.

Sometimes it's really difficult. From personal experience, I can tell you that sometimes you just want someone to reach out their hand and say "Hey, let me show you the way to improve your life". Unfortunately, that's not the way it works in the US medical system. If you need treatment, you need to seek out the help you need and be willing to ignore the financial aspect of health care in America to make it happen, because at the end of the day your welfare is more important than deductibles or co-pays.

I certainly think it's insane that we expect our mentally ill or afflicted (As I've been before) to advocate for themselves and seek out their own workable treatment, but thats the way it currently is, so do yourself a favor, call every mental health facility in your area, and get yourself some help. Please, Monkhouse, feel free to PM me and maybe one of us could help guide you to good resources in your area to find the help you need.

This may be just an Internet message board, but that doesn't mean a lot of people here won't be willing to help you. The most important thing in your situation is to REACH OUT!

Hey bud I'm not here to say that I can understand what you are going through with BPD, but as someone who has dealt with several bouts of severe depression in my young life with constant thoughts of suicide as well, I've learned to find value in life and the love of people around you. Life is precious and beautiful and there's no one in this world as unique and amazing as you are as an individual. Every minute you spend on this Earth is as special as you. Vow to yourself that death is never an option no matter what because of how important you are to the people around you and the Universe itself. Find beauty in darkness. Easier to say than do because I've been where you've been, but hang in there bud you'll be fine. Seek a professional and just remember that it's never worth it. You'll get through this Monkhouse! Stay strong even when you don't believe you don't have anything left in the tank because we both know that there's always a fight left in our souls.
