A good alternative in the sense that getting a bullet in the forehead is better than getting hanged.  Either way, you lose.

Monroe can rebound but he doesn't shoot 3's.  And he's poor defensively  So how does adding him help the Celtics?

stats:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/monrogr01.html

0% 3p FG percentage his ENTIRE career.

There's a reason he can't get on the floor.

Greg Monroe poorly impacting Bucks defense:

If you look at advanced stats from the page you link you see a different picture about him defensively.  His DPBM is the best of his career.  DRPM has him at 32nd among centers (or about average), which is an improvement over last years 48th.

IF we lose out on Noel and we cannot get Bogut. Monroe is an option. We need another Big to make The EFC. Denver too has some extra. Ainge is going to add something. Chatter to heat up on Dec 14th. I am Hopeful for Bogut myself Noel if he does not cost that much.

Some people here want to make trades simply to make trades. Trading for Greg Monroe is,just that. He is a,net nevative and we would have to give up some valhe to make our team worse. Sometimes not making a trade is the best trade you can make.

Does Monroe truly move the needle for the Celtics? I don't think so. Don't waste good assets to acquire mediocre talent.

Well, what assets are too good to try it out?  Amir, Mickey, and Young with a second?  Make room for Zizic and Yab.

It would give us a different look.

Realizing how woeful the Celtics are on the boards .....you reach for the quickest fix .....

I would resist this type of move

Trade he the whole enchilada for ....picks players for Boogie

What would the point of that be? Trade cheap/flexible contracts for a huge deal that doesn't make a huge difference?

A player (or players) who moves the needle. Monroe doesn't.

Agreed. I'd rather spend more assets on a guy on an expiring contract (like Bogut) and preserve our cap space for this summer
I'm bitter.

If he promised not to pick up his option, I would be more than happy to bring him in (remember the Rondo for Monroe threads a few years back, btw?). He is a solid low post scorer, good rebounder and passer, and apparently doesn't mind coming off the bench; although he would definitely start here.

Again, though, he would have to come super cheap (like not even Rozier or any type of 1st cheap) and absolutely be on board with opting out next offseason.
