I think it's more likely Smart would become a good offensive player than for LaVine to become as good at defense as Smart. Or even 80% as good.

but Smart will never be even as 80% as good as offense as Lavine.

What makes you so sure about it? Outside his 3 pt shooting, Smart has been impressive with his post moves, mid range and driving to the paint so far. I'd say he's already 60-80% offensively good as Lavine. Deronzan isn't exactly a deadly 3 pt threat, but he's lethal offensively and is an all-star who lead the Raptors last year to ECF.

Wow. You normally don't see CB polls so close. This trade may make some sense. Thibs would absolutely love Smart.
Actually, if the poll is close, then that probably means it is in our favor.  If the trade were truly a toss up, then no one here would want to do it.

I think no way. Lavine is a good scorer though. But still I'm amazed this is so close. Lavine is also very overrated at this stage in his career.   Smart could be as well but it will be interesting to see who ends up better.

Well wait a second does Smart show up more often with offense that approaches LaVine's or does LaVine show up more often with defense approaching Smart's?

The is perhaps the worst offensive player in the league.  So really, there is nothing positive to be said in that area for smart.

Y'all think anyone outside of Celtic fandom would pick smart over Lavine?

Well there's playoff tape of Smart doing interesting stuff like guarding power forwards, but there's no playoff tape on LaVine, so I'd have to say yes, or at least if LaVine's agent is like "We want a hundred mill for four" and Smart's agent is like "8.5 mill for five."  Then yeah there are other teams that would want Smart

I will never be mistaken for being a blind green teamer and even I think trading for Lavine would be a downgrade.

Definitely - Lavine better end up being a legitimate foundational player or else he will be just another 6th man. He certainly has talent, but isnt exactly an all-around threat. Smart is more in the Bradley mold where he could fit in almost anywhere. His toughness and versatility will always be useful. He also has killer work ethic and it is assumed that his offense will at least improve to an average level.

Now, I did vote 'yes', but I wouldn't necessarily be happy about it.

Do you think people outside Celtics fandom would have taken Pierce (the better player) over Vince Carter back in the day (prior to 08)?

What a joke of an argument.
