How about a return to Boston? Straight up trade for James Young. Clips get a young wing in return, Pierce retires as a Celtic. Clips get out of the luxury tax importantly.

Uh if Pierce retires we'd just sign him to a camp contract and he'd have a big ceremony with the org. Or if its mid season we'd sign him to a veteran's minimum or 10 day contract something like that. We aren't trading James Young for that privilege.

(though we could easily trade Young for a bag of beans, Pierce is a particular bag of beans we'd get for free)

yeah but if you trade for Pierce and then he retires you don't use a roster spot and don't have to cut Young to get a roster spot.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

^ while that may be true, cutting Young would be part of the fun.

Doc already said they have arrangements to send Pierce to Boston for a day and retire a Celtic if that's what he chooses to do.
