Listening to an old Rights to Ricky Sanchez podcast* (Sep 4, 2013) and Spike Esken is talking about a panel he moderated that included Marcus Morris.

He said that Morris said -- on this panel -- that the Rockets gave him, at the 2013 trade deadline the choice of being traded to PHO or BOS. He, of course, chose PHO to be reunited with his brother.

Interesting to me for 3 reasons:

1. That HOU gave him the choice (the other players, per Esken, also remarked "they let you choose?")

2. I don't remember hearing this at the time... does anyone else remember hearing that Marcus Morris was almost dealt here? He was dealt for a 2nd rounder... so it likely woulda been the same.

3. KG, Pierce and Doc all left that summer. Might have been interesting to see what Stevens could have done with Morris' game.

Well, when it comes at the price of a 2nd round pick, most everyone is a high enough character guy

I think Marcus Morris is very underrated. Too bad we couldn't have snagged him for a 2nd.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Marcus for a second would have been an absolute steal. Not sure why he's getting a bad wrap in this thread. He's a very nice big man to have.

yeah Marcus is basically an Olynyk type player.  Not great, but solid enough he won't kill you and consistent enough you can play him every game.  getting him for a 2nd round pick would have been a great steal for Boston.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The major X-factor would've been Morris' attitude, especially on an awful team like we were that first year.  But if Stevens and Ainge could've kept him focused a 2nd would've been a major coup and he'd probably still be an important part of the rotation.

At least no worse than Sullinger was, right?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Attitude-wise?  He could've been much worse.  Sully's problems seemed to mainly be work ethic/motivation based, which is still a problem, but I never heard him considered a locker room cancer or anything like that, which is what Morris would've been in the worst-case scenario.  But we could've cut bait on Morris very easily if we just gave up a 2nd for him, so it's definitely a deal worth making if he'd agreed to it.
